re: your post about buying birks for your plantar fasciatis (sp?). I had that too, and I found that the Dansko Professional (closed back) clog really healed it for good.

I wear my clogs whenever my feet, knees, low back, etc hurt and they realign everything just so. Nice thing is that they are closed, so you can wear them in winter. They also have fun colors as well as neutrals. I missed out on a limited edition leopard print pair. Darn! I am lusting over the red patent leather ones in Nordstrom.

Make sure you try the Professionals. They are the closed back ones. (the open backs aren''t as effective on the PF) I also went to a few trade shows, home shows, etc...and stood on concrete floors and walked all over in them and my feet never once got sore or tired.

I just have to second Divergrrrl''s vote for Danskos! I have three pairs of the Professional Clog (one black, one brown, one furry red leopard print!) and three pairs of the mary-jane looking open back clogs (brown, black, light tan).

They are ALL I WEAR, aside from my flip flops and my running shoes! Seriously, I wear them to work every single day. My feet never hurt at the end of the day, even at the end of a long, on-my-feet kind of day. I had some plantar fasciitis when I was a kid which resolved, but I think my Dansko''s will help prevent it from happening again!

Here''s a link to the mary-jane style ones I have....they''re called "Margrete"

I think they are just as comfortable as the Professionals, and better for summer (or almost year round in Houston) when it''s hot and you don''t want to wear socks. I haven''t ever work the open-back clogs, so I can''t really comment on their comfort.

Anyway, they''re expensive, but sooooooooo worth it, and they last a really long time too!!!

Oh, I third the vote for Danskos!! I have two pairs of Dansko Professionals -- one black and one light blue -- and I also have a pair of LL Bean ones that I *love* -- a nice camel-y color that Dansko doesn''t make.

Funny, my hubby has flat feet and is pronated and a specialist recommended that he wear Danksos too. We were in a store that had a "Buy one, get another for 50% off" sale, so we got matching black Danskos that day

It took him a while to feel comfortable mentally with his "man clogs" (as we call them), but he was comfortably physically in them from day one. Now he loves them and wears them all the time and is like, "Hmm, I think I need some brown clogs too"!

I think it''s worth looking into the LL Bean ones as well as the Danskos. I love them, but they were horrible for my husband, so obviously it''s whatever fits you best. But the LL Bean ones are like $55-$60 as compared to $110-$120 for Danskos.

hey, thanks for the suggestion. i tried them on in covent garden and unfortunately they hurt my feet in the store. fortunately i had not paid for them. they look cool though.

i recently helped a coworker with her PF. it's getting better.

last week i wore a cute pair of ballet flats and was in misery by the end of the school day. back to bostons immediately for me! as lonf as i wear birks there is no issue with my feet.

i remember my PF "bottom" i was crying as i was walking around colonial williamsburg. that was when i said to h&*^ with the doctors and cured my own feet.

a year of motrin, a monthly professional masseuse who broke up the scar tissue, and birkenstocks -- all healed.

Have any of you had orthotics made for your shoes? I had to get them after a stress fracture last year and they are great for my feet. I don''t know if it would help that particular problem or not, but thought it worth a mention. I can''t wear Danskos because they don''t come wide enough for my foot. Bummer.

Lady K,
Sorry to hear the Danskos did not work for you. I have a couple pair which help my feet a lot. They make another style of footbed, which might be more comfortable for you? For example http://www.dansko.com/Product_Detail.aspx?StyleName=Mariel&ID1=7179&ID2=8802&VID=493

I do find that this style runs wider so I have a harder time wearing them.

Could I ask you an unrelated question? You mentioned Covent Garden - are you in London? If so, can you recommend a hotel that is centrally located, inexpensive, and clean? I''d appreciate it! We''re planning a spring trip!

I love Danskos, too...but my husband falls off of them--yes, falls off. He lives in Birkies instead.

Thank you Lady K, I greatly appreciate it!
