I'm okay returning a hug but try to not initiate hugs, especially with women without asking.
I try not to initiate because others may return a hug when they'd really rather not.

I wish I were more sensitive to cues - I am an unabashed hugger. I really should be more concerned about offending someone with unwanted hugging.

I would hug EVERYONE on PS. I think I've already hugged everyone on PS from Perth, so that's a start. Wait until I finish this bloody degree and get to LV for the big meetup. I won't have time to eat, for all that hugging there is to be done.

I'm not a hugger by nature or upbringing, but I'm also not going to recoil theatrically from people who are (though if they're creepy about it, I'm going to make a point of having my hands full of hot coffee when we meet forever after). But I *am* always surprised by how many people react to my holding my hand out to shake with a kind of "Pshaw!" and a deep hug. Do people not shake hands anymore? Is it seen as a sign you're not really friends?

P.S. - I also just do the man-hug back-clap, or I just feel like I'm pressing my boobs on people for no good reason. Just me? You know, it's like a shoulder to opposite shoulder bump with some back-patting for good measure ....

yeah, I gave hugs too! If someone doesn't look like a person that hugs then I respect that. I will say if I don't know someone then I won't give a hug though. lol
