Karl, or anyone who knows.

This stone

I think I've read everything here a few times but it still doesn't register what a DA is.
Hey, I may be dumb but at least I'm not stupid - or maybe it's the other way around.

Can you summarize in simple words the characteristics, good or bad, of a DA?

I guess I'm not the only who does not understand the term drop asscher.

I don''t think so. I guess it is a medium step pattern. Not quite a narrow step and not quite a wide step. The idealscope image looks like a drop asscher with the darkness in the center and then bright in the very center, but the regular image looks like more of a "medium" step pattern.

Well, since it''s a term that Karl made up I find it a bit difficult to describe. I know he uses it to describe an asscher with a distinct windmill and a good contrast of light and dark, leading to very bright center. But, I guess, instead of trying to figure out Karl''s pet term, since we all "see" things in our heads differently, it might just work to describe it as a really nice asscher that leads the eye straight to the center. I would describe it as an almost whirlpool effect.

Its a RA style which is a variation of the multi-step/narrow step.

Drop style are real easy to identify they have a large dark zone between the windmills from just inside the table to the center bright area. - red arrow.
The band just inside the table is important for brightness otherwise they can be over-dark depending on table size. - green arrow
