Just got a diamond I am in love with (1.51 VS1, I color, strong flour). Wouldn't consider a diamond without flour after having this one.

Now,I did notice something that I thought might be a reflection but wanted your input. When I am looking at the diamond face up, and I tilt it 10-20 degrees away from my line of sight, there appears to be a straight line running the width of the diamond with the culet as it's axis. It's not always perpendicular, but is always perfectly straight.

What you guys/gals think?

Probably the girdle reflection. If you look at the profile, you should see a line through the middle.

This is a terrible picture, but you can slightly make out what I'm talking about here. There are two straight lines originating from the culet area and extending straight out.

I'm assuming your VS1 has a GIA or AGS grading report - if so, your stone should have no easily eye-visible clarity issues.

Have you giving the stone a thorough cleaning with warm/hot water and dish detergent? Could just be some lint or debris...

Do you have the idealscope image of the stone? That wouldn't have anything to do with the girdle reflection. Clean the diamond with some Windex or something. I am not even sure what you are seeing.

Do the lines move when you tilt the diamond between 10-20 degrees? If so, it's definitely a reflection.

I don't know what lines you're talking about--what directions are the lines pointing (usually describing them pointing like on the arrows of a clock helps e.g. "pointing 7 oclock")

I will clean it later and upload a better picture. But, you can see it on the picture I have uploaded. It may be easiest to look at the center of the diamond where there it appears to be 4 quadrants. The lines I'm referring to make up these quadrants.

Looking at the picture as presented, one line runs from about 1 o'clock to 7. The other from 10 o'clock to 4.

Also, yes it is a GIA, and is certainly clean. Using a loupe, it took me a while to find the needle plotted in the report (http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=2156777439&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&c=Page&cid=1355954554547)

Those lines you're seeing as just the facet pattern.

Those lines you're seeing *are* just the facet pattern.

Ok, thanks, I guess they're just a little more pronounced than I've typically seen.

Get a magic marker and stain some facets until you see the lines change color. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol.

Hm. Are you sure that diamond's clean in the picture? It looks much cloudier than a VS1.

I also can't really tell what you're looking at but would assume it's the facets. Drawing arrows on the pictures would help if you want us to reconfirm.

No, the diamond is filthy in that picture haha. I didn't clean it for the pic. I went on James Allen and others had the same thing I'm referring to. You guys are right, it is the facet pattern
