I used to work for Fidelity, at this branch in fact, and it was a well known fact by all employees that no one was allowed to be involved in any type of gambling or wager activity that involved the company, or it''s name, in any way. (I have a feeling employees involved in their own leagues outside of work, is fine, but leagues that were strictly employees of Fidelity is obviously breaking the rule.)

I''m surprised they didn''t fire everyone involved in the leagues. That is the part that I don''t understand?

Interesting. I know there are lots of policies that are probably "overlooked" like using company email to send personal messages - etc. Usually disciplinary action is brought about before termination... kinda makes you think about things in a different light.

I think that in this economy a lot of companies are looking to downsize without the negative impact of layoffs...So, they''ll overreact to small things and get people out that way.

My company has strict policies over this kind of stuff. I know one year, someone sent an email and they fired everyone involved in it to make an example of the policies. In this economy, I''m assuming no one is forgiven.

Fidelity is really good about making their employees aware of everything they need to know, which doesn't leave employees much wiggle room when they mess up. Fidelity is all about keeping their image spotless, and this "no gambling" rule, is a very big one for them, which makes it hard for me to believe that he had no idea he was doing anything wrong.

Given his role at the company, and knowing the approximate amount of people he oversees and personally manages, he had to have known.

IMO, he knew about the rule, he just thinks it didn't apply to him and his fantasy football league. We had to get permission from corporate to have fake casino games at our Christmas Party. Even then, we weren't allowed to give away prizes or awards based on the "money" you made.
