Jewelry Pieces used to be a great place, with amazing antique jewelry, gold, etc. Now, it is pretty much deserted, which is a pity.

Any ideas on how we can liven that corner of PS up?

Frankly, I had never heard of the Jewelry Pieces forum.
From PS's descriptions SMTB sounds like nearly the same thing and has high traffic.
Therefore combining them (actually, just shutting down JP) may be a good idea.
They could move existing threads from JP to SMTB.

High traffic attracts even more interest.
Low traffic attracts little interest.
On Internet fora, eyeballs are a chicken and egg thing.

JP isn't just about showing off jewellery; many post there asking about valuation, trying to gauge what they have, asking whether the asking price is fair and the like.

I was first attracted to PS by the Royal Jewel thread a number of years ago, it is not as active as it used to be, which is a shame.

DK :))

Exactly - Jewelry Pieces had a lot of interesting conversations on jewelry design, valuation, history of jewelry, etc. Show me the ring is pretty much about woohing and aaahing over pieces that are already purchased, which is a different thing altogether.

So, on my part, I'll look for some interesting jewelry related articles to post.

I just bought an antique pocket watch on ebay - I may go to Jewelry Pieces or the Antique Jewelry subforum to have a conversation about it when I receive it. I literally know zero about watches other than that they tell time and can be pretty. I just somehow stumbled across this and fell in love. So hopefully I like it in person.

Distracts,
I know nothing about pocket watches too but I think yours is lovely! I have been pining about getting one for years.

That is lovely! Is the extra leaf for a photo?

Hi,

That watch is so pretty! Do post about it.

Annette

Yes, I agree. It would be great to revive this forum. :)

Looks beautiful so far. I just recently bought a gold filled one off of eBay too because I loved the engraving. Yours is definitely nicer than mine. I wound mine up and it seems to run and keep perfect time. :). If you start a thread, I will have to go check it out. I had found some interesting sites about older pocket watches.

As far as I know the answer is no. It is a cover for the internal parts/gears of the watch. Some people engrave messages on that cover since the front and back of these Hunter cases are ornate and only have room for initials.

Maybe start a sticky about "Somebody's Gotta Buy This Jewelry"?

That is hugely popular in CS, because Minous is a genius. :)

I often find pieces that I like, but can't afford  , so it would help relieve the pain.

How about another sticky "At the Auction" for all those fancy auction house pieces?

I think this section needs stickies otherwise interesting threads will just fade away from lack of use.

The watch has arrived but, alas, I am on vacation. My husband opened it up and looked at it and took a picture but of the watch face, which I think everyone on this forum will agree is pretty much the LEAST important thing about the whole watch. I'll post a thread when I get home and see it, and I'll comment back here when I do. (In case anyone is wondering, the case is white with black numbers. It is super boring and I have been searching on ebay for more elaborate watch faces in the correct size.)

Those are awesome ideas for threads. RT has a thread for wedding bands like that, but perhaps it would actually be better suited to Jewelry Pieces?

I know I do a lot of surfing ebay on my phone when I'm bored and I always find stuff that's cool but I personally am not interested in buying at this time, and it would be nice have a dedicated place where I could go to share those things with people who may be interested.

I do like these threads best when they're not just expensive stuff though... "somebody's gotta buy this stone" went through a period where it was only more expensive items getting posted and I never checked it then because it just wasn't fun to look at stuff I couldn't buy, lol.

Definitely. Hope to see a revival of the JP section and your new watch there soon!

I may have posted in this thread a while back. I did not look. I enjoyed looking at all the unique vintage pieces.

I ended up taking all my antique jewelry pieces to an auction house that specializes in this area about a week ago. We did a review and I feel comfortable about my decision. With the proceeds I am contemplating another "bling" purchase.

I really love many of the threads in Jewelry Pieces, but my interest in threads waxes and wanes. Bobby, one of the most important and prolific posters to The Royal Jewels thread just came back for the forum for the first time in ages and posted something. If he remains, perhaps that forum will revive. (Or perhaps not. I can easily believe that Bobby gave up because he felt that all his efforts were being wasted, although that is mere speculation on my part.)

I also love all the threads on charm bracelets and The Gold Thread. These threads go through active periods and periods in which posters do not seem to have anything to say. Since Christmas is coming, the charm bracelet thread could become interesting. We could have a challenge for anyone interested to see who could build the best charm bracelet by Christmas. One of our posters,in fact the one who started the original charm bracelet thread, ringthings, made a gorgeous one in silver using vintage charms, some from eBay. Here is a link to her thread:

ringthings' thread...https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/%E2%99%A6%E2%98%85-vintage-christmas-charm-bracelet-pics-%E2%98%85%E2%99%A6.183422/

and here is a link to the original charm bracelet thread, entitled:

"Show Us Your Traditional Charm Bracelets"...https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-us-your-traditional-charm-bracelets.134071/

Who else has ideas?

Tell Bobby his efforts won't be wasted if he posts on fora with more eyeballs.

Chicken and egg, you know.

Well, the thing is, kenny, that some of the fora on Jewelry Pieces are unique. I could not imagine Bobby having an interest in any jewelry other than that with some strong historic value. I am actually not even sure that he would be interested in a piece unless it was connected to a royal house, although I could be wrong. I cannot just send him to "Show Me The Bling" instead, if you get my drift. What is covered in that forum is not in his field of expertise or interest, even if it draws many people. And for quite a while many people (although not the numbers that read Rocky Talky or Show Me The Bling) read the forum to which he contributed and made it a lively gathering place. But things change. I think that's why Beatriz asked for some input from others, to try to turn things around, rather than just to accept that the numbers of today must remain as they are.

I just went back and looked at this entire thread. I am kind of "blown away" ("amazed" in English) that so many people seem to be totally unacquainted with Jewelry Pieces. It appears to me that many Pricescopers really do not understand what Jewelry Pieces is and what it does, how it is unique.

Jewelry Pieces is not just another place for Pricescope members to come to discuss their own, everyday jewelry that they have already bought. Not the designer pieces they are considering (unless they wish to talk over a vintage or high karat gold piece or a special watch on a certain forum). Not a diamond on which they need advice. It isn't for getting technical advice on everyday buys or for showing off the everyday bling you just bought or had made. It's for discussing unusual jewelry and pieces you own, see, wish you could have, want to add to a collection, or have just bought. We have a forum just for royal jewels. This forum has had plenty of eyes on it. Take a look at the number of pages it has run. (It's 403.) Those of you who have never heard of Jewelry Pieces, how did you miss this?

We have a forum for tiaras, but only for the tiaras of women who are not in royal families, since the tiaras of women in royal families have to be covered in the forum on royal families and there are many other tiaras in the world, you know! We also have a Gold Thread, which is not called The Gold Thread, but, "Do You Have A Favorite Gold Designer?" which is for people who love gold, including high karat gold (56 pages).

We definitely do not need to move other threads over to Jewelry Pieces! Jewelry Pieces has plenty of threads of its own. What we need is a more informed readership! We need people to know what is in jewelry Pieces!
