I have recented "accidentally" found my stone that I bought from a jeweler in Manhattan on a website. Obviousley when I try to click to purchase it, it says it is no longer available. It is my stone because I have the GIA report and the one they show on-line is the same one. Is this normal? I would never think a jeweler would purchase a stone to resell from an internet website.

The diamond likely was the property of the vendor listing it on his website and you purchased it from his buddy who runs an Internet listing site. The diamond might have been the property of the Internet vendor and he let his buddy, the retailer, list the stone on his retail store site. The diamond might have belonged to a third party that you never knew about at all.

Not everyone updates their listings immediately. Your diamond is in Internet limbo.

Thanks. I was hoping that it wasn''t something to be concerned about.

Oldminer would know more than me, but I really wouldn''t worry too much. If you have the cert, and are happy with the stone, you are fine....

I have seen many diamonds listed on various websites (same certs).

Many wholesalers are now walking both sides of the street and selling both to the public and to the retailer. When the retailer finds out he will often drop that vendor as they do not like the competition from their own suppliers, ESPECIALLY if they are selling to the public for the same price that they sell to the retailer for. Some even sell to the public for less, which has always confounded me.

That happened to me too. I bought my stone at a B&M. Worried that I paid too much I started looking around to see if I got a good deal. I found my stone on a website of a B&M halfway across the country (from what I understood, they owned the stone). I paid 10% more than the price listed, but I found out later that the price was low already.

However, I decided that I wanted a pendant, and since my experience with the place I got the stone from was so-so and went sour when the owner gave me some pretty poor setting advice, I went directly to that retailer where my stone came from. The service was awful. They never got back to me or had stones listed online that didn't exist. One of their stones was at Abazais, but was owned by a cutter in India. They told me the stone was sold, but then I found out the truth. I ended up getting my pendant at WF for a good deal and had a great experience.
