I've been chatting with JannPaul the last week on instagram, and tonight I had a really good conversation with Chloe. Set up an online appointment with Avery for Monday evening. My questions is for anyone that has gotten a setting from JP how good are they. The pricing was spectacular in my opinion compared to some of the custom jewelers here. For example getting a JP solitaire band with pave on the inner band and on the outer band of prongs for $1100 less than a classic solitaire setting. A halo setting with pave for almost $2000 less. When I heard those, I decided I needed the get into more details on the settings. I assume the settings will have the same standards as their diamonds.

Since my SO really likes the halo setting style Chloe did recommend going with the Round Nova instead of a Decagon 10 HA. I'll definitely discuss the different options with Avery. There were one or two designers her, both highly recommended by the community here, but I was probably going to have to compromise on not getting what I know she really like, and now there is the possibility of staying under the budget, and still getting her what she wants. Win win I think. :D

I don't have a solitaire but a band with small decagons scattered here and there. The ring is *substantial.* For its tiny size 3.25, it has heft. This thing was clearly hand forged. No casting here.

Be sure to ask for a video if you can spare the time. It's lovely watching your creation come take shape. And it's free! Best of luck!

How long is the video? My appointment has been moved up to this evening at 10;30pm. I have time. I even talked to Chloe about just picking it up in Singapore if need be. I have a connecting flight in Singapore on December 28 with plenty of time between flights. So I'm thinking I should have enough time even if they do not have my size in stock.

I think it’s about. 2 minutes. With music underneath. I loved working with Chloe!

They would make the setting specifically for you. But maybe they have premade rings in their store? Def post photos once you get it!

I just hope I can get any ring. I posted in the Natural Diamond thread, that my 3 month old son has been exposed to whooping cough by his 16 month old cousin. His cousin is in the hospital in ICU and on a ventilator. My SO told me the doctor said 50/50 chance. So will definitely hold out until I know my son is in the clear. Hopefully he doesn't catch it at all.

My original appoint for Monday, was scheduled with Avery. Then yesterday morning they said they could do it at 10:30pm Saturday night. That didn't go to well, and to be truthful the way it went down didn't impress me at all. It was with a different diamond specialist, and it did not happen, but I'm still scheduled for the original appointment time, and still with Avery. So hopefully I got lucky, by thing falling through last night.

Well I had a very good online appointment with Avery tonight. 2 1/2 hours. I think I'm going to go with a .78 decagon in a halo setting. Big factor it is in stocking about $500 cheaper then the 1.13ct. After looking at a 1ct in halo setting on the same size finger as my SO, it looked huge. Since the one that she tried on and fell in love with at a local shop only had a .3ct centerstone I was worried that the 1ct w/halo might overwhelm her. Now to find a way to put the deposit down asa[ to hold the diamond. Once done, I'll post the goal certificate number to get opinions.

"Diamond shrinkage syndrome" is real so personally if it is within your budget I would get the larger stone. Especially since in today's world of highly available and affordable lab diamonds most engagement rings are larger than they used to be.

I understand what you’re saying, but this ring will be staying with the bride in Thailand. I do believe in general engagement rings tend to be smaller carrot size and Asia. She fell in love with a . 3 Size Care Center stone with halo so this would be more than doubling the size still, I am torn about whether to get the bigger size or the smaller size and trying to think how if it would be too flashy for her situation

Is this also going into a halo? I hope so, given what she feel in love with. The other ring had more of a cluster look so you could just do smaller diamonds in this halo to get equivalent finger coverage and thus similar flashiness.

Yes, the .78 CT will go into a halo. I just don't think I'm enamored with the generic halo setting. I'll get back with Avery to see what other halo designs there to consider.

So here is where I sit currently with the decision. My current income is on the low side due to work. This is the time of year that I should be rocking and rolling with work, but our biggest client is the TxDot a government agency. For the rest of the fiscal year they have cut back which means we are not working and earning the way we would normally be at this time of year. After talking to my SO, she is telling me I want this ring more than she does, and she is correct. LOL! She would prefer a 23kt gold bracelet. So I'm going to downscale the setting and ring to try to keep it as close to $3000 or less. I can get the classic solitaire setting from Jan Paul with a 1ct all in for way less than my preferred 3k budget, and maybe have some room for a little bit of bling. The halo is also still an option once I confirm pricing with Avery at JannPaul.

My question for the group is in your opinion what color goes best with my SO skin tone, and will more then one color work well. Choice are Platinum, yellow gold and rose gold. The diamond cut is current a round nova, but could be changed to the aDecagon 10 Hearts and Arrow or the Decagon Nova.

The initial ring she loved was platinum so I would stick with that unless she told you otherwise. Get her what she wants!

And good luck with work :( Definitely don't spend more than you can spend safely.

I think orig was white gold..... they don't do Plat
by the by... the stock Jubilee setting she loved was pretty top shelf...
generally you don't see E color melee in stock settings....

SKU : R23451EG, R23451EW
Color (Diamond) : E Color
Total diamond weight : 0.41 carat

lastly not my business but when you say "she is telling me I want this ring more than she does, and she is correct"

if i were advising you i would stop looking right now... Learn all you can about diamond proportions, Buy Garry's Book, learn how to use a Loupe / Aset Ideal Scope and Next time you are in Thailand you and she go shopping together and let her pick the setting and you can look at / inspect the center diamonds they have available and choose the best one for you budget....

also are you sure how well LGD will go over there ? Looks like the Jeweler she went to is exclusively Natural Belgium GIA/HRD Diamonds....

As far as I know Thai people prefer high color&high clarity natural diamonds better than big carat diamonds.
LGD are a no-no; only natural, untreated, earth grown diamonds.
If she prefers a 23 ct gold bracelet , buy it.
Buy the ring when you're in a better financial position : it's not wise to go into debt for a nice but useless piece of carbon.
Just my opinion.

As for matching metal to skintone, you can ask SO if skintone is warm, cool, or neutral toned. You can check this by looking at the veins. Green is warm, purple is cool, blue is cool/neutral. Warm skintone usually go better with gold, cool with silver/platinum, neutral can do both. Rose gold - some like the pink hue, some don't. These are guidelines and not hard rules, so it's the SO's preference that really matters in the end.

Also, take a look at SO's current set of jewelry. Some prefer a metal that they wear most often or have most of. Some like to mix colors.

Update: so after talking with the significant other againI’m making a compromise between he classic solitaire setting and the halo design. She is more interested in a gold bracelet. So we will go shopping for a gold bracelet for her when I’m in Thailand. She will still get the LGD ring from me. A 1ct Jann Paul Round Nova and this setting. Having a René ring done in 18kt gold band with white gold hearts. I kept coming back to this design as I looked at others. The money saved with this design will go into getting her a bracelet she wants. Now to continue to save. Her quote to me was “ A half baht gold bracelet is ok, but a 1baht bracelet is better. Hahaha”IMG_1037.jpegIMG_1038.jpegIMG_1039.jpeg
