Hi all,

I’ve gotten into contact with Jannpaul and they are quoting me the following for their

Decagon Hearts and Arrows:

1.41-1.43 ct G VS1-VVS2
USD 17,500-18,100 (excluding tax)

1.51-1.53 ct G VS1-VVS2
USD 19,000-19,700 (excluding tax)

On top of that they will impose a 2-4% increase if I were to go for the decagon nova.

Additionally due to tariffs and duty tax I will need to pay an additional 16% when it arrives in the US

Also I want to put this on a credit card and they noted they will use stripe which has a 4.2% CC fee.

So it looks like an additional 22.2-24.2% will be added on to the price of the loose diamond (however I can get more value out of the 4.2%CC fee with the Sign up bonus and free night hotel credit I would be getting from it)

So looks like I will pay around $21,385 for the 1,4 ct

And $23,218 for the 1.5ct.

Without the setting.

I love their decagon cut and also the nova cuts but this seems a bit exorbitant for the diamond. I’m wondering if the base price is inflated. When I look at round ideal ACA from white flash I’m seeing USD $14k for a 1.53 G VS1

5k lower than what they are asking for - now I know the decagon is a unique cut and should come at a premium but that’s more than a 33% premium for another super ideal cut diamond

Wondering if anyone can share their pricing experience with JP?

Doesn’t matter the price of ACA’s. That’s a different product. Until WF or others make a decagon, you get to pay what JP asks. They have a proprietary product so you have to pay to play. Either competition or lack of market activity will cause their supply-demand curve to take a dump and then they will adjust pricing to retain market share and/or move product.

The 4% CC fees is very similar to the wire discount at WF, BGD, etc. And tariffs, I’m not even going there.

If you’re feeling dicey, you can buy a round trip ticket to Singapore for about $1,000 and wear it back.

No way I'd pay that much for it, but that's me.

I'm a noob. I don't know anything. So my thoughts and opinions aren't worth much!

But when I showed my wife and daughter the decagon and nova - they lost their minds. The three of us spent a week searching for every photo and video of JannPaul diamonds on the internet. We chased down owners and asked them to share videos haha!!

I think if more people knew about JannPaul the response would be similar - complete diamond fever!!

All that to say, if you can get one, me and my family would fully support your decision haha!!! You'd have something very (for now) rare and special that no one else would have - and yours would be natural!! Maybe you can talk to JannPaul and coordinate a purchase window when tariffs are lower. I think there was good tariff news today, right?

Best of luck!!

Oh and we looked at a few used lab decagon rings for sale in Singapore and they held their value. At least for now. People were willing to pay up - and these were labs

Totally agree with you snaphappy! Definitely love my decagon and I won’t ever part with it.

This. It's a unique product so the comparison doesn't quite work.

...But when I showed my wife and daughter the decagon and nova - they lost their minds. ... we looked at a few used lab decagon rings for sale in Singapore and they held their value. ...
If those used decagon rings were for sale at a dealer of new decagons, I'd take your conclusion that 'decagons hold their value' with a huge grain of salt.

Sellers of high-ticket items, pianos, Persian rugs, very high end audio gear, know they must chip away at customers' anxiety regarding resale value.
If I was an authorized dealer of a unique diamond cut I'd address resale value concern.
To do that, I'd also display some (supposedly) used decagons at prices encouragingly close to that of new decagons.

I'm not saying Jann Paul does that.
I'm just saying, buyer beware. ;)2

Next.

I'm glad your wife and daughter loved the cut.
BUT
I also LOVE and own a unique cut diamond, the Octavia asscher - however ...

Besides loving the unique pattern of the cut, the main reason I'm gaga for that cut is its astonishing light performance, which IMO rivals that of an ideal-cut round.
For an asscher that is an impressive feat of engineering and brilliant design!
Kodos again to our own @Karl_K here on Pricescope; He designed it! :kiss2:

I would never buy any cut based on still photos of the pattern itself.
Light performance is the choreography of the ballet only seen when it is moving .... in a video, or preferably in person ....... compared side by side with a super ideal cut round in a variety of lighting.

When I was shopping for the Octavia I already owned a super-ideal, the Whitefish ACA round.
I was careful to buy the Octavia from a reputable vendor with a great 30 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee.
Then I took my time carrying around the Octavia, in one of those clip rings (very carefully) to many lighting environments.
The Octavia on one finger, the ACA on the next finger.

I'd never buy any cut design before comparing, it in, person to a super-ideal round ... and not just under jewelry store lights that can even make a clump of coal look spectacular.

Good luck!
