I know JA is reliable for diamonds, but does anyone have experiences with their colored stones? They offer a JA certificate, but no AGL, but the videos are stunning!

I've never bought from him so can't say from experience, but I see an awful lot of windowed stones on his site, especially the yellow sapphires.

Their coloured stones seem to be commercial, I'm not sure if they are drop shipping or not but if they aren't they should stick to diamonds.

Like other vendors, JA has some nice coloured stones and not so nice coloured stones. Unfortunately, I see more not so nice CS than nice CS at JA.

I'm sure their CS look better in person but they're still unspectacular.

I completely understand a jewelrymaker's reluctance to accept outside stones, but you would think that would then be incentive on their part to find the finest quality, both in color and in cut. I mean, after all that work, who would want to see their beautiful craftsmanship surrounding a stone with a big window or some such? I wish they - and others like them - would take outside stones.

From my understanding I thought they would take your stone with a setting fee

Niel, While I was speaking of James Allen, I was really speaking in general terms about those vendors (many and seemingly more and more these days) that do not take outside stones. It just seems a shame because if the customer is knowledgable at all, the result could end up being nicer. That's all.

Oh I didn't realize some vendors don't take outside colored stones for settings. I was toying with the idea of of finding a couple of nice matching marquise sapphires and South Sea pearls to make a pair of earrings and necklace like this tanzanite Paspaley set

The world of colored stones is so foreign to me. There are so many more variables to consider than diamonds. If you guys didn't point out the window in the JA stones, I wouldn't have even known to look out for those. Oy!

Oh, I love those earrings and necklace! They are gorgeous!!

I second that! That sapphire and South Sea pearl combo is awesome.
