Hello,
I think I found the setting and now I'm interested in expert PSers opinion on the diamond. I have not seen it in person and I don't have pictures, just the specs. It is graded by EGL, which I heard isn't ideal, but it is certified. The store is trying to track down the stone for me so I can see it in person as I type this:

ROUND
0.78 ct
G
SI1
3.01 x 5.97 x 3.61 mm
60.3 - Depth
57.0 - Table
14.2 Crown
43.2 - Pavilion
33.1 - Crown Angle
40.9 - Pav ang
Thin to medium Faceted
Very Good - Polish
Very Good - Symmetry
0 - Fluorescence
0 - Cutlet
Cut grade: Ideal Plus

EGL certificate #: 59731011D

The cost of the diamond is $2,740, which seems to be a great price! I'm a newbie so I'm sorry if I act like I have no clue!! Thanks!

Did you see the diamond yourself, or a magnified picture of it ? A diamond graded SI by EGL may very well be a I1 or I2 diamond by GIA standards with visible inclusions...please post a picture if you have one.

Update: The sales person told me there are no visual inclusions and the ring has "tons of sparkle and fire." Under the loop, "all the inclusions are white and very small scattered throughout the diamond." She assured me that it is eye-clean but if I want to see it in person, I have to have it transferred to my local ShaneCo store.

Hi Frenchcut-I don't have a picture. I'm trying to see if I can a) get a picture or b) transfer it to my local store so I can see it in person.

Oh, it could be graded I1 or I2 by GIA? That makes me really nervous! She said there are no visual inclusions.

Hi Mandasand, I don't mean to scare you but EGL are know for their inconsistency in grading and they are often softer than GIA, hence the need to actually see the diamond.

I also think you may be able to find a better deal with an online vendor than with Shane but that's just me. Always remember that the only thing that really matters is to find a stone that you'll love at the right price, not the place where you get it!

Thanks Frenchcut! I know that I would find a better diamond online and I actually found this site, kind of like an Orbitz Travel, but for diamonds! You put in the specs and a bunch of diamonds come up from various stores. The thing is, I'm really nervous about ordering online.

That's totally understandable for such an expensive purchase, and I can't say I've got anything against B&M stores as my ering comes was bought from one of them...what really matters is that you learn enough to make an educated choice and PS can really help you with that.

Take some time (if not already done) reading the knowledge section of PS, it's full of useful stuff. Also, it's important to take some time to look at different diamonds in several stores so you can educate your eyes to the importance of cut, clarity and color.

Good luck with your diamond hunt, we hope to hear from again once you have seen the stone you're interested in!
