I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa and we got almost a foot of snow last night. Now the winds are howling like crazy. Anybody else trying to survive this mess? I took a snow day from work and took some pictures a few hours ago. Here''s what''s happening in my neck of the woods...

How pretty! I live in Michigan and I just can''t wait for the first big snow!

Last one for now. this is looking out our front door at the driveway. My FI had taken the snowblower out about an hour before this, but it''s so windy, it''s already drifted over.

Me too!

I envy you. We were supposed to get a little snow and ice last night. It was snowing pretty good with those big fat flakes when I went to bed. I woke up this morning and it was pretty warm and the snow that was left over from last saturday was even gone.

Snow days are so great. I was hoping for one this morning, but no luck. Those pictures are so beautiful. I am especially envious of the one that shows the big window behind your sofa with a kitty laying on it. That is where my butt would have been. Sitting there all cozy watching the snow fall.

So beautiful!!! I can''t wait for snow!

It''s pouring here and it''s been raining all day. I wish it were snowing instead.

That''s so pretty!

I''m in CT and we got a bit of snow last night, but only a few inches. DH took a snow day from work and is hanging out with me (I''m unemployed). Unfortunately it''s raining here now

which means it''ll probably all ice over by tonight. Oh well. It had snowed on Saturday and never fully melted, so now we''ve had snow for 5 days! We usually don''t get so much until January.

Hey Travel Goddess-I''m across the way in NW Ia! We got socked w/it last night too. One of my coworkers has 6 ft drifts and can''t get out of her driveway. I went to work this morning (for a whole hour before I got a call to close it up-I was the only one there) and the whole street was one big huge drift. It''s powdery snow tho (which sucks when it''s this horribly windy out b/c you can''t see anything) so boy did I have fun-stick the truck in 4 wheel drive and floor it! The plows were out while I was at work tho-ruined all my fun for the drive home.

I''m in the Quad Cities and we look JUST like Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately, no snow day for me! I''m on my lunch!

another Iowan here!

enjoying the snow day - work was canceled for today by yesterday afternoon, which shocked me.... anyway, my neighborhood is such a winter wonderland this morning. I think we only got about 7 or 8 inches, but it''s certainly blowing a lot, and we''re supposed to have the best visibility in the area right now. I don''t even want to think about what it must be like in the rural areas.

Sizzle, how is it getting around town?

I had no idea we had so many Iowans! This excites me! Maybe there is hope for an Iowa GTG someday. Haha!

The wind has really picked up around here. I feel a little guilty missing work since I just saw the mailman delivering my mail, but oh well. I wish we had some dry firewood so I could have FI make a fire when he gets home. As you can see from the pics, there''s no shortage of wood in our backyard, but we just keep forgetting to bring some inside for a fire.

packrat, I keep seeing that the winds are worse up in the NW part of the state. My folks live in North Central Iowa, but I haven''t spoken to them. My little sister is a student at ISU and they cancelled classes for today. Lucky girl. Class was NEVER cancelled when I was in college.

i''m in iowa, too! i live in ames, and they actually closed iowa state! apparently this is the first time in maaaaaany years.

We''re having our first major snow storm in Québec as well. About 6 inches so far and no signs of stopping! We''re expecting another 8 inches or so in the next 24 hours.

Wow! It''s 72 today in VA Beach - the hottest in weeks and crazy windy at times.

View from my condo of the beach.

and tonight I''ve heard we''re supposed to get a bunch. actually, we have a ''blizzard warning''

I hope class is canceled tomorrow, since we get the lake effect and all. I could definitely use a break from physics

Beautiful shots! Enjoy your snow. Have you tossed your kitty out into the snow for some exercise/play?

I opened the door for Pablo this morning. He kind of shuddered and looked at me like "are you crazy, women?!?" I will say that one of my FAVORITE things in the world is seeing tiny little cat prints in the snow. I think he's just happy that since I'm home today, the thermostat isn't as low as it's normally set while we're at work.

"Me? Go outside today? Have you seen it out there?"

Travel Goddess, love the snow shots but I agree with Pablo, I wouldn''t go out either. Brrrr...

Wow, you weren''t kidding about the blizzard! I live on the east coast and we only got 5 inches or so. It''s beautiful though. I love fresh non-foot printy snow.

You people who love snow amaze me (or are lucky enough to never have to leave the house!). I HATE snow!! Thankfully, we''re only supposed to get an inch or so today, but even the sight of it blowing around makes me depressed!

Yep, and after a good rain and a bit of mud, it''s always great to see paw prints across the hood of the car and evidence that the kitty traveled up over the windshield

I just moved away from Iowa, and I''m SO jealous! I always loved the big snowfalls, it looks so beautiful, and I can''t get enough of sledding. Gorgeous shots.
