Hi, I understand the Cut is the most important factor of all and ideally Excellent. I like to know if it is also necessary that Polish and Symmetry must be Excellent too? If I cannot locate a Triple Excellent stone, beside Excellent Cut, what is the second most important, Polish or Symmetry? Ive recently found a stone which has Excellent on Cut and Polish but Symmetry is Very Good. It is G, VS2 with Excellent HCA at 0.9 and beautiful IS Image too. And price is awesome at $22,449 for a 1.90ct stone. Should I go ahead to confirm the stone despite Symmetry being Very Good? Please advise. Thank you.

a GIA stone?

I've seen in tons of threads on PS that the difference between Ex and Vg in Symmetry and Polish is not noticeable to the naked eye. Especially if the Idealscope symmetry looks good to you.

The paper facts are one thing, but if the stone looks nice and performs well, I'd say go for it!

Are you looking at AGS stones?

I think your eyes are the ones that will tell you what you can live with and without. Whether it is onsite at a B&M or over the internet (shipping a few stones back and forth) only YOU know what you will be the happiest with.

I personally would want Excellent for symmetry, but very good polish would be fine.

can you post the idealscope image?

I'm ok with vg for polish and symmetry, but I also don't feel that I'm expert enough to be able to discern a visible difference between the two. In general I think that most consumers probably won't be able to tell the difference, however, if your an enthusiast or someone with lots of diamond experience then I think it's probably safer to stick with EX EX EX.

edit: I would definitely. without a doubt though only consider GIA or AGS graded stones.

If I had to sacrifice something, I think I would rather have symmetry over polish. Because in a 1.9 carat stone you will be able to see the arrows and hence, I think it will be visible the differences in symmetry. Also symmetry may affect the overall cut too - take Hearts and Arrows diamonds as an example, they have to be symmetrical diamonds to make that grade. Thats if I had to sacrifice something - ex ex ex is nice.

Lab symm grade does not equate to optical symmetry.
