It looks pretty to me...but I would wait for someone with more knowledge to write back...my only concern would be the "strong blue"....

Here is a cut quality chart for Emerald and Radiants, it might help, however you can't always go by the numbers and it looks really pretty in the pic. My concern would be the variance in the girdle, especially the extremely thin part for durability's sake, also check that the strong blue fluorescence doesn't have a negative effect.

ETA - I forgot to post the chart - what a twit I am!

I should probably mention I like the flor in the stone. this stone is currently set in a diagonal design...I will attach a picture for you.....

I''d be concerned about the girdle..extremely thin would not appeal to me unless a stone was being set in a bezel. And the range of extremely thin to extremely thick doesn''t sound like the cut is great? But I know nothing about emerald cuts. Hope an expert weighs in for you!

I am getting this ring for MUCH less than what the person paid for it and I am getting everything that goes with it. I am thinking of removing the stone and having it set in some other type of setting, maybe with a halo.

Ditto. I would be very worried about "extremely thin." What are the risks involved in taking this out of it''s current setting and resetting it? Maybe a jeweler could tell us?

which could be great, unless they overpaid.

make sure you are comparing real time online prices here. you should be getting a significant secondhand discount from what you could find online.

again, if you aren''t going to use the setting anyway, getting the diamond ''and everything that goes with it'' that may or may not be a great deal. you need to look at what you could get a similar stone for and price it from there. settings can be expensive and if you don''t plan on using this one, you need to look at adding (much) more to your overall cost.
also, as others have mentioned, the extremely thin girdle is concerning. you need to find out how much of the girdle is extremely thin and where. this could pose problems during the setting, unsetting, setting process as well as everyday wear. make sure you know what you are getting!

best of luck whatever you decide.

Hi. Okay. I''m gonna be honest.

I don''t think it matters what THEY paid for it and that your getting it for much less. What matters is the actual value of the diamond, and whether or not you like the way it looks.

For me, the table is too big, the polish and symmetry are only ''good''... and in an EC symmetry is very imporant and the girdile is VERY uneven and way too thin in some areas.

This diamond is a little smaller. But since it it''s a G and it doesn''t have the Flourescence (I know that you like it. I''m only saying that flouresence lowers price frequently), and the girdle is even the price of the stones should be comparable as the other values are similar (depth, table, plish and symmetry). The price for that one is $1000-- $985 if you pay cash.

My point is-- your resetting it so the setting doesn''t matter. It''s the diamond. Unless you are getting it for a NICE amount less than $985 I don''t see why you wouldn''t get a similar diamond from some who has an upgrade policy.

What are you planning on paying for it?

When I said everything that goes with it I mean the certificates and paperwork. I have another stone I would like to have set into that setting. I have an emerald cut blue topaz that would fit according to the jeweler.

The offer for the diamond was around 1000 which is standard for just the diamond. this would be my first diamond that I have bought myself. So I like the sparkle of it and they are offering money back guarantee....no upgrade but at least it is set and I can see what it would look like when it is set in another setting. The girdle is thin in the top which is why it was set in that direction. This would not be an everyday ring, more like ''fix'' for myself until I can find something else... :) This board is famous for that. I like emerald cuts and there is a jeweler that would buy it from me in the future if I decided to ever sell it.
