Hi-

Many here helped me with suggestions on the appropriate proportion of side stone trillions to a round center stone. As I said before, I didnt love the idea of trillions with a well cut center, but she wants it....

The center is 2.86 round, HCA 0.6 EX, with a diameter of 9.30. I did NOT want the knuckle of diamond look, and did not want to take away from that center, but just to accentuate it (by having side stones lower set and angled down. I had wanted about .38 carat each of the trillions, but didn''t get it exactly. And with everyones advice from here, wanted deeper trills than average to have more brilliance and avoid a glassy look.

Pair of trillions I may buy:

0.345 carat each. 5.4 mm point to point. 2.5 mm depth. Guess that comes to a depth percentage of 44%. (I had wanted 50 or so as a goal)

The price seems right. I will have rights to return after seeing them. They are a "branded" trillion from one of the few companies with such a thing.

Sound good or should I pass?

Jon

I think these two will work perfectly. Is the color the same or one grade higher than your center diamond? If so, go for it.

Thanks for the input Diamonbob...

Yes, the trillions are one color grade better than my center stone. The center stone is an H, but very well cut.... so went with G on the trillions. So of course, I will wait for my local gemologist to give her opinion that the color is accurate.

Hi All-

In my opinion it's not possible to properly match stones unles you look at them together.

We use a plastic box like the photo.

Besides actual dimensions- which sometimes don't look exactly as you anticipated, there's also differnces in sparkle that make some stones look mismatched once you set them. I've also had cases where stones that looked ok loose, did not look like a match once they were set. That's one of the reasons I suggest buying the diamond and ring from the same place- get a guarantee on everything.

Also remember that a trill and a H&A will never match exactly- but you can find a pair that compliments your center by careful picking.
