is this too tall for a ring?

hello all! i'm getting some final measurements for my new setting, and am wondering if this will be too high. It was made to fit a five stone wedding band underneath (using 18point OEC/OMCs), so I'm wondering if the overall height can be reduced either through making the prongs shorter and setting the stone lower. what do you all think??

thanks in advanced for any input!

What is the size of the bezel surprise diamond on the side? you can't bring it down to much without the culet almost touching the surprise diamond depending on the size of it. I don't think its too tall, if you have a Jareds around you, they have scott kay settings that have surprise bezel diamonds that looks similar to yours (concept wise), you can try some on for height and piece of mind.

ETA:looks about 2mm from the base (finger) to the culet isn't really that tall imo

My ring is about that high.

I really don't know about the proportion Sweet but your ring will be AMAZING! :appl:

I remember reading your earlier post about this custom ring. Nice design!

If you want to lower the diamond farther into the basket, you could have the surprise diamonds (and with them, the four swirls) split farther (in the "Z" direction). The increased space between the surprise diamonds on either side would let the center stone come lower without its culet hitting them.

Not related to height: Have you considered that the wedding band will obscure the surprise diamond on one side?

thanks so far for the replies!!! this project has been in the making for too long, and we're trying to finally wrap up final details and get this ring in production.

one option would be to pucker the scrolls/swirls out more than it is (spot on, wedge! :D). i actually asked them take the scrolls in, so that my wedding band could sit more flush, but right now one option would be to bring them back out and live with a larger (but not ginormous) gap between. the rings would already have a gap with them brought in, so taking them back out would increase the gap a bit which i'm still contemplating whether i'd feel comfortable with that. the surprise stones will actually be garnets, and while the wedding band would block one of them, i would probably interchange wearing the wedding band on my left and right hand, depending on my bling mood, haha. so maybe the gap isn't a huge deal. i'm in medical school and when i start my clinicals and residency, i would probably tone it down a little, but that's not for a little while :naughty: the ring was designed to minimize scratching of the two rings when worn together.

dreamer, i saw your ring in the SMTB section - it's beautiful! it also doesn't look high at all either! it makes me feel a little better about the height.

stci, i am very excited to be getting my ring back. it's been at least 3 months since i sent my diamond over, so needless to say my fiance and i are both really really excited to get this baby going!

i guess i am just being nitpicky because my last setting was SUPER high, and it was hard to use my hands without worrying about damaging my stone and setting.

I don't know *for sure* that my ring is the same height, just to clarify, but it looks about the same judging by the images. I would have liked my ring a little lower, but this was a stock temp setting so it is what it is. I do not find it too high in general.

if it was my ring, i'd lower it. it seems a tad high.

my ring is bit on the high side and if i had the option to lower it i would.

No, I think it's perfect. I'm not a fan of super-low settings.

Here it is with the prongs tapered in a bit more and somewhat lower. You might find this a bit more appealing. I did not change the culet lower, but there is some room to work with,

thanks oldminer, for the revision and everyone for their feedback. these are the final CADs for my ring, and the jeweler will incorporate lower prongs, a reduced pave basket, and the scrolls were pulled out a bit more so all that should help reduce the height of the ring. most will probably recognize that this is a piece by JbEG who have been wonderful. i am VERY excited about receiving the final product!

Looks fantastic! The modified basket outline really highlights the shape of the center stone! Super cool, and I continue to think that family of styles is JBEG's best-looking work.
