I know this question has been asked about a hundred times in the last week, but you are all so good at it I figured one more couldn''t hurt. Here is the princess cut I am considering.

6.09 X 6.09 X 4.13
1.23 ct
F VS2
Table - 66.7%
Depth - 67.9%
Crown Angle/Height - 34.1/8.4
Pavillion Angle/Depth - 59.7/57.8
Girdle - Medium (1.9%)
Polish - Ex
Symmnetry - Ex
Fl - None

The crown height isn''t ideal, but is it enough to steer clear from...what about light leakage. Thanks!

Hi! There's no way to tell the leakage without some analysis...like a lightscope image.

My answer is going to shock everyone who knows me--I would take a look at this stone (are you stunned, MMM?

). Although you would ideally want a stone with a crown >10%, with those depth and table numbers as well as the fact that the stone has excellent symmetry and polish, I think it could be a winner. Having a depth of 68% is great (I like high 60's to low 70's), and I wouldn't want to go lower on the table size or you'll lose out on the white light as well as the fire. I just have a feeling that this stone, despite the crown, has serious potential.

If you can get an ideal scope/lightscope image that would be fantastic! I would love to see if I'm right with this stone as it goes against my normal standards (I've told people not to get stones when they have crowns of 9%).

Good luck!

hello everyone

it seems i pop in for one day and leave for a month or so...anyway, in response to this thread, i am curious about what reseacher said. i thought that symmetry and polish wasn't a big issue as it was only something that only the gemologists and appraisers can really tell the difference between im not expert by any means but i would surely at least check out the stone in question, it seems to have great numbers. of course it would be gravy to get an Iscope and check it out further. but researcher if you could clarify what you meant about the polish and symmetry i would appreciate it as well as anyone else who reads this thread.

IMO it is enough to steer clear from. With those pavilion angles you want to see those crown angles closer to the 40 degree mark coupled with a taller crown.

One thing I've learned about polish and symmetry is they're a sign that the cutter took his/her time with the stone. Although Excellent doesn't promise a winner, of the stones I've seen that don't have quite the right numbers the ones with better symmetry/polish always seem to out perform the others.

While Rhino is obviously an expert and is convincing me that I should stick to my strict standards for princesses, I'm curious as to why sites like Bluenile can consider stones with a crown of 8% part of their expert collection. I did notice that this stone did not have the perfect crown, but it still is better than so many and has so much else going for it. I guess that's why I thought this stone might be an exception to the rule. Are there cases as people suggest when the numbers just don't tell the right story?
