this has been in my family for over 100 years and my mom says its and OMC but I''m wondering if it''s not an OEC

Got any clearer pics? If your mom is correct on the date, it is more likely an OMC.

ETA: Oh, sorry, I see your still adding pics. Unfortunately I still can't hazard a guess.

But I wonder if the date is correct...that stone looks pretty perfectly round...it could be an early OEC, or if the dates are wrong and it is newer it could even be a precurser to the modern RB.

True, true. I see that a ton at work, where families forget or mistake the provenance of something from a relative- a relative assumed something, then another did, and finally everyone is sure that grandma''s cut glass is from the American Brilliant period and not 1970s Czech.

Unfortunately I really can''t tell anything without a closeup (like you can see the facets close) shot of the stone...

Dittoing NF ... with that high crown and small table, I''d *guess* OMC, but it really is only a step or two away from blind guessing. Can you try a macro shot or two?

sorry my photo skills SUCK.

that was macro. I was doing it hurriedly though. I have a 4.0 mp canaon and have ahard time getting it to focus like it should on the close up stuff without zooming in to 11x optical. I''m sure its operator error.

will try tomorrow to post some better shots.

thanks for the help thus far though.

Basically, an OMC is going to be "squarish" or "lumpy" with a large culet, and an OEC will be pretty round with a smaller culet, high crown and small table...

I also thought OECs were round and OMCs were squarish, but that''s the extent of my knowledge. Maybe I''m wrong anyway:)
