We are still looking around, but have fallen in love with following ring on Union Diamonds.com. We''re obviously still going to look around, but wanted to see what you guys thought. This one is right under $1500 and we want to pair it with a platinum Tiffany''s style setting.

GIA
Shape: Oval
Carat: 0.67
Color: F
Clarity: SI1
6.99-4.73-2.98
Length to Width: 1.48
Depth Percentage: 63 %
Table Percentage: 61 %

anyone?

Ovals need to be seen in person. If you can''t, then we need idealscope, ASET, and pictures to be able to tell you anything about how the oval will really look. There are a lot of crappy ovals out there whose specs look fine on paper.

The oval needs to be seen:
1. Does it have a bowtie?
2. How is the facet pattern?
3. Is it sparkly? An Idealscope and ASET picture will help to evaluate this.
4. Is this SI1 eye clean? Where are the inclusions?

Thanks guys. I''m new to this whole diamond thing. What is an idealscope? Is that something I can get from Union Diamond? Do most internet diamonds allow you to view the diamond?

Idealscope:

Dave aka Oldminer from www.gemappraisers.com will sell you one for $25

Most online vendors will give you a x day viewing time where you can bring it to an independant appaiser of your choice. Many of us here suggest buying stones from vendors who already provide Idealscope and ASET pictures, SARIN scan and magnified pictures on stones that they sell so that we can make an informed decision without having to ship the diamond back and forth.

Welcome!

Get it right with an oval and it will be a stunning diamond, get it wrong and they can tend to be unexciting and dreary - as can indeed all mediocre to badly cut diamonds. As NF says, you need the above to help judge an oval or any fancy shape, this is your first port of call - also it is preferable to stick to an expert vendor who has in house diamonds to be your eyes and advise you accordingly, this is the best way to go about finding a great diamond.

Also check an SI1 is eyeclean.
