Welcome Tam!

This diamond looks potentially very nice! An Idealscope image would be useful to confirm the numbers if you have one, but on paper it looks promising! Have you seen this diamond? Also I take it you want very high colour and clarity? You may know you could go lower on both and still have a very clean and white diamond, but this is a personal preference thing.

Yes, an idealscope picture would be great to back up the number crunching.

Hi,

thanks for the replies. I don''t have an idealscope. Im from Sydney and just looking for a diamond for an engagement ring for my girlfriend - fiance to be. So i do not know much about diamonds except the 4c''s.

I was hoping someone with a little time could do some number crunching with the numbers in terms of the GIA proportions given above. This is the best diamond in my price range that i have came across, i would go with an IF or F if i could find one with the same grading above as im not looking for size ( 0.7-0.8ct is good).

Here we like an Idealscope image to confirm what the numbers indicate, however with the proportions of the above diamond, if it was me, I would probably take a chance on the numbers alone, it should be a very good looking rock! As always, make sure the vendor has a return policy, but you should be pretty safe with the above diamond.

Tam,
Is the diamond local to you? Are you able to see the stone in person?

I forgot to post C''s advice, if you can actually see the diamond, then that is ideal, if not I think it is well worth taking a chance on.

The reason we can''t say definitively that this should be a great stone, is that GIA rounds their numbers. So, those crown and pavillion angles may not be exactly as they appear. However, there are general rules of what GIA combos will work (knowing there is rounding), and yours does have very good potential. Plus, all the other info looks very nice, so I would say, give it a chance! (assuming, as Lorelei posted to, there is a good return policy)

hi guys/girls,

the diamond is local yes as the shop is in an upper class shopping mall/centre, so i will get to see it before i make a decision. I guess there is a return policy? Will need to ask if im serious.

another thing is he says its got H&A if i look at it with a scope because its such a perfect cut/proportion, and if i wanted "H&A" laser inscribed he can do it by sending it back to the USA to get it inscribed - takes about 2 weeks. Does this sound legit? As i do want it inscribed, would GIA re-issue a new report saying "laser inscribed H&A" ?

lastly, for a VVS1 rock does clarity graining on the surface/internal okay? Seems too much for a VVS1?

cheers

Tam

Does the stone have the ID number inscribed on the girdle already? If it does, I would not bother sending it back just to have H&A put on it. GIA will inscribe whatever someone wants on it, and that would be noted on the report.

Have you looked at the stone with the viewer to see if it really is a H&A cut? Just curious...

At VVS1, there are no problems with inclusions, whatever they are.

It''s great that you''ll be able to see the stone. I think this way, you can decide for yourself after seeing it. I''m pretty sure that the stone is a sparkler. As for the surface graining, it''s probably nothing (can''t be seen with a loupe) since the stone is a VVS1.

i havent seen the stone yet, doing it tomorrow hopefully as im going to go to a number of other shops to see if they have other similar stones available - just shopping around i guess.

Ellen it should have the GIA xxxxxxxxx number on it yes as he gave me a photocopy of the GIA report with the ID #.

Anyway thanks for your help all much appreciated.

Tam

The stone sounds lovely! You certainly have ZERO worries with a VVS1! I would not pay for F or IF because you cannot see the difference even with a loupe!

As Ellen said, I see no reason to have it sent for an inscription. Please return with some pictures for us if you should buy the stone!
