I recognize this is asked quite a bit, but if anyone has any thoughts I''d appreciate it.

The diamond is a 1.56 carat. F color (though its probably F- / G+). The table% is 59.0 and the depth% is 62.0. The pavilion depth % is 44.0 and the crown height is 15.0%. The crown angle is 34.5 degrees. The girdle is medium and there is no cutlet? The clarityis SI1.

The diamond is EGL certified and I had an appraiser look at it. I guess I was concerned that the cut (especially the depth percent) isn''t ideal? For this diamond (its priced just below $10k). The jewler told me the 62% is really negligible vs. a 61% and I want to believe her, but I was under the impression 61% was kind of an upper limit on total depth. Any thoughts?

Thanks
C.

Do you have the pavilion angle?
I take it the diamond is round shaped?
And the colour is more F/G?
What about the clarity grading?
Is the cert EGL USA?

If this stone scores well on the HCA, I could take the slight hit on the depth. Steep/deep stones aren''t necessarily terrible as long as the angles are complimentary and not overly deep. 62% isn''t overly deep.

Unfortunately I don''t believe this is EGL-USA. The stone is round and an SI1 cut.

I''ll have to see if I can get the pavillion angle from the appraiser.

Thanks
C.

That''s really not correct. I usually say about 60-62 is the ideal range for depth, but we see ideal cut stones at 62.3 and 62.5 even. I don''t like to go too deep because it might make the stone face up smaller. But there is nothing wrong with 62. It''s your table that is slightly outside the ideal range which goes up to about 57.5% I believe.

Your depth is ok, the limit is like 61.9%, and however your table indeed is out of the ideal range. I personally wouldn’t go beyond 58% table to classify as an ideal cut diamond. Best of luck.

The limit on Table size for an ideal cut is 58% for diamonds over 1/2 ct. and 59% for diamonds under, IMO. That''s pretty much straight from AGA, which I think is a bit stricter than AGS or GIA with their cut grades.
