I''ve sort of been browsing diamond earrings. I''d really like to get a pair, but I really, really can''t pay a lot, so I thought I''d get something a little bit lower in quality for my very first pair (and then work my way up in a year or a few :) ). Anyway, I came across these and I can''t believe a pair of 1/4 ct earrings would be this cheap?? I know it''s a little lower in color and it''s I2, so is this price really accurate? Also, I hate to sound dumb, but when they say 1/4 ctw, do they mean both earrings put together is that much, or is it 1/4 ct each earring??

Anyway, here''s the link: http://superjeweler.com/itemdetail/ItemDetail.asp?JwlKey=339

I would really appreciate your thoughts. :)

Junk...and ctw means total carat weight. Sorry hon, but those things won't sparkle. Not even worth the $80 they want for them.

Junk, hon.

At that size with color and clarity, it''s pretty much guaranteed to look dingy and not sparkly. Of course we see e-rings in the J-K-L color range or at an I clarity here that are very beautiful - but that has to do with cut. Even in the itty bitties, cut matters. If there is nothing listed about the quality of the cut, often, you can expect that the cut is not ideal or even good.

You can find ones exactly like that at Kohl''s (or other mid-grade department stores) on sale for that price, so the online price is nothing exciting, either. Another thing is that the setting is probably not something you''d like - you want a basket, martini, or bezel - that "cup" style doesn''t help the diamond any and is often cheaply made by department store type vendors.

For a small pair of studs, the best price for the quality (and excellent customer service) is at enagementringsdirect.com - $225. And if you search "small diamond studs" there is a thread that I started last spring with LOTS of info in it about smaller studs (and tons of photos).

Junk, hon.
Thritto. I have a pair of similar size and quality purchased for around the same price years ago, and they are hideous!!!

Save the $80 towards a nicer pair, we will always help you look for some good ones!

Thank you all VERY VERY much for your replies!! I pretty much figured, which is why I came here!! :)

I'm seriously, seriously awful when it comes to memorizing specs for diamonds that will give the best sparkle, or whatever (you know what I mean? How people post all the specs and someone will say "oh, that has a shallow table. it won't look good" (or something similar?). So, that's why I'm depending on you all to keep my money in my pocket until something WORTHWHILE comes along! LOL.

Thank you again!! And I will look at that site you posted El. Thank you so much!! :)

Hugs,
Rachel

ETA: Just wanted to add a question. How 'big' are the diamond studs usually? I don't want anything gigantic on my ears...mostly because I'm not used to it. I have a 1.21 ct sapphire as my center stone in my e-ring which measures 6x6mm square, and that would be WAY TOO huge on my ears! So, I was thinking maybe 4-4.5mm per ear, but...what would that translate to in diamond ct size? And, am I being naive in thinking that I could get something in that size at a low price? Basically, think of these as 'starter diamonds.' LOL. The reason I'm asking this is because I obviously thought when it said 1/4ct earrings, it meant 1/4 ct each ear. LOL!! So, now I'm a little confused. :) Let's say I got 1/4 ct earrings, right? That's basically .125cts per ear, right?? What size in mm is that typically?

I'm so sorry if I'm being complicated and needy..LOL. I'm just SOOO new at all of this!! I never even LIKED jewelry before, and then when I started looking at e-rings (at the request of my then FUTURE fiance), I became OBSESSED!! He's created a monster!! (With the help of PS...definitely ;) )

If you are on this foeum then you already know that the color and clarity are lower in quality and wont give the desired effect.Save your money and wait til you can find a pair in a better quality range that will make you happy. The weight represents both diamonds weighed together.

I would wait too...the size and just the colour and clarity alone these are not a good deal

Save up your money for a nice pair that is a reasonable size :)
The people on here are great!!

If you really just want some to try out and don''t care too much about the cut, I''ve been eyeing these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250335724498

I recently bought a semi-mount from them, and it was exactly as described, so the items listed should be pretty accurate. I think this is also closer to the mm size you''re hoping for.

This guy isn''t too bad - he sells stuff that is overstock from Zales. While you CAN find good sparklies there, they won''t be high quality. They will give you diamond studs that sparkle a bit at a decent price, though.
