in my country there are so many tiktok gems seller.. They sell moderate price stones.. They say that the most important factors is the eyes of the buyers not the lab reports to determine the quality of the stones.. Cheap lab or reputable lab is not important.. They said their $700 stone will becomes $5000 if they send it to a reputable labs.. So, dont bother to buy expansive stone with expansive lab reports because they can offer the same quality with cheaper price..

My question: is that true that the expansive stones i ve seen on the market are actually cheap but the price has been marked up just because of the prestigeous lab reports.?

So in theory they could spend, say, 300$ (to account for shipping) for a reputable lab report for their gem and in return ask 4300$ more for it, effectively increasing their profit by 4k. And they aren’t doing that becaaaauuuuseeee?

I’d be very curious to hear their answer.

The short answer to you question is no, that’s not true and the sellers are lying.

Emm their items look beautiful to me and other ordinary buyers.. If your answer is a NO.. That means we "the buyers" have to learn more how to look the stone.. There must be a reason why some stones price's are too expansive while some are cheaper athough they nearly identical..

One of these sapphires is synthetic and retails for $600, the other is natural and retails for $38,000. They have the same carat weight. If you just want something that looks beautiful, you can go synthetic. The reason to buy something from a reputable lab is to know that the stone is what it is being sold as: synthetic or not, treated or not, from a rare location or a more common one. As @Avondale said, if it were so easy for the seller to make so much more money by sending it off to a fancy lab, why wouldn't they do it? Do you think they give away thousands of dollars to be nice?

With apologies to the colleague whom I am loosely paraphrasing, "The internet is spectacular for two things: 1) pornography; and 2) selling sh*tty gems with no report to unsuspecting international retail customers."

Related: I have some 24K gold with no hallmark so I'm willing to let it go for $100/oz. How can I get it to you? :cool2:

Emm yeah.. Make sense.. But this is all about the mentality of people in my country.. They dont have money.. But they will always looking for "Unheat NO treatment" items and get cheated by the seller..

I hope somebody can teach these ignorants the different between $200/ct stones and $2k/ct stones.. They might look the same, but i know there must be minute differences causing the price gap

Emm maybe i need to learn more.. Sometimes i cant differentiate between moderately priced stones and the expansive one.. They are almost alike.. And people would think the "cert reputation" that makes the difference

If you have premium quality stones, it is relatively easy to sell them with a GIA or Gubelin report. However, it would not significantly increase the selling price.

Emm thank you for your wise opinion.. If the labs does not significantly increase the selling price, then the sellers in my country tried to deceive buyer with their so-so quality stones..

Bingo!

And you know, the problem isn't the so-so quality. An included stone can be fascinating, and pretty, and conveniently fit into someone's modest budget. One does not need a $$$$$ stone to be happy.

But the deception as part of the sales strategy - that's dishonest. And repulsive.

It is common for a dealer to add the price of a report to the price, that's fair- a report gives information. It's insurance for the buyer.
What is not fair is pressuring buyers into the fear that every sapphire might be a Kashmir or every ruby a top ruby. If the dealer had any idea they might be that quality- they wouldn't be showing it to you for a few hundred dollars. It would be certed and boxed and only shown to those with big money.

They're not stupid, they're banking that you are.
