Is it worth while to go for an H over and I or J, or go for a bigger diamond that''s an I or J?

How big will the difference be to the naked eye?

TIA!

It depends if you''re colour sensitive. If you can''t tell the difference, then go lower colour, bigger diamond =).

Good luck!

P.S: If the diamond is of ideal cut, it will be so sparkly, i doubt you can see any colour or warmth face up =)

First of all, what shape are you looking for? A step cut diamond will show more body color than a round brilliant.

depends on the cut and shape stone you are referring to and whether you are color sensitive or you if can embrace warmer colored stones. I''ve seen K color asschers next to my K color RB and the difference in color is definitely there in step cut- very apparent but one of the first thing that is noticeable is size. if all else being equal- and cut is ideal and the price tag is the same for something larger- then heck ya i''ll take a J. but i''m not color sensitive

I like H's personally, I think they are indisputably white when properly graded. If you are comfortable with a hint of warmth I-J is a good place to be as you can certainly get a slightly larger diamond. The difference between the grades is pretty small, but I begin to see a very subtle tint in the I-J range. It ultimately comes down to what is important to you. Best of luck on your search.

I am going for round brilliant.

Personally I like the heart shaped diamonds, but my fiancee doesn''t.

Hey abefroman! Go for the H! I saw your other thread. Is that the diamond you are thinking of getting?

looks beautiful =)

If the I or J has fluorescence it should help face up white so you can get more cts. for your money.

I buy high color and high clarity diamonds of the best cut.
For the same price I could have much much larger diamonds, but size is my least important C.

But is really doesn't matter what I like, does it?
Also it does not matter what the majority of others like, unless you live your life for others.

What matters what YOU like.
Figure out what YOU like.

Get out and see many stones of the color and clarity you are considering.
This is the only way to discover YOUR comfort zone.

I don''t think we can advise you on color for an engagement ring. If it were for a different piece... but for an engagement ring, CUT is key. So I would recommend you go to a Hearts on Fire dealer (leave wallet at home) and ask them to see stones in H, I, and J colors in similar carat weights. And observe the stones in ALL lighting environments (direct natural light, indirect natural light, with you head obstructing the light, and most definitely away from those amazing jewelry store lights) and decide for yourself what you comfort level is.

Also, look at the three colors next to one another on your hand. Then one by one away from each other (like three car monty, so the jeweler knows the color but you don''t). While you WILL LIKELY see the difference between an H and a J side by side, you lady won''t be wearing it that way. She will be wearing the stone you chose by itself. SO make sure that you view each color as a stand alone.

Best of Luck.

Ditto Jonathan and everyone else, it comes down to what YOU prefer.

Thanks!

Yep, I think that''s the one.

I am colour sensitive but have preferences for certain colours according to the shape of the diamond. I find that I prefer the icy coldness of DEF for step cuts, GHI for rounds, princess and others, JKL for antique cuts like OMCs and OECs.
