Is it worth buying an I1 or I2 stone?

Hi- I purchased a 1.5 ct diamond for $400. I have yet to get it apprased. The stone "appears" to be more clear than expected to the eye. There are 2 black inclusions, but the remainder has a grainy appearance. Will this stone crack if set? If it doesn''t crack when it is set, would it be safe to wear? I know- shame on me for buying a $400 stone...

Any opinions would help.

Thanks!

$400 does not seem like a big risk to get this stone set and I think a good jeweler should be able to set it without damage. As far as the I1/I2 - if you think it looks great then that is all that really matters. I recently saw an I1 ring and to the untrained eye they probably would have not noticed the inlcusions if they were not looking closely. I was able to pick them out right away but some looked better than others. One of the rings I looked at had strong fluorescense and I think this helped mask some of the inlcusions since it looked pretty white.

Are you planning on setting it into a pendant or a ring?

Please forgive my total frankness.

There are some nice I-1 diamonds, but

Any 1.50 carat for $400.00 bought thru normal channels would typically be so ugly that it embarrass the wearer.

Ps. Don't shoot the messenger.

Some I-1's can be amazingly beautiful and eye-clean due to strategical inclusion placement and excellent make (see, for example, Patty's 1.35ct G/I-1 diamond, or the little cute stone I bought - I made a poll about it, it's .76, K/I-1) and can be purchased at very attractive prices, but not even remotely close to $267/ct like you paid for that 1.5ct. No offence, obviously, but I think such a stone would be more adequate for a pendant, where it'd be scrutinized not very closely & wouldn't be subject to wear and tear. So... it may be suprisingly attractive for the price you paid, but I am not so sure it would be adequate for a ring... Too much risk of banging it all around.
