I think it depends on where the house is and when the person bought it. We have houses here that are a bit further out that you can get for $200,000. Big difference between a jewelry collection in that range and the multi-million dollar lake side houses!

My husband 's car is worth more than the average house (Median price) here until last year where the county saw the median cost grow by a whooping $100000. (apparently the area is having a bit bubble type market, and pffff, even the counties that are further away are having home prices climb like nobody's business; we have a house valued at $170 millions 20 minutes from me,

As far as my house compared to my collection it depends if you are talking about buying price or current price of my house. And Nope, my collection is farrrrrrr from being more expansive than my house. But I am working my way there slowly each year.
