Is it me, or does PS seem wildly slow these days?

I pop on and read more than I post, but--is it me--or is it super slow these days? Has this been the norm for a while? Or am I just so out of touch that it feels that way to me?

I think it is definitely slower than usual for this time of year. I think it could be due to a combination of factors.

The increase in other social media options (i.e. Instagram for one) and also the election (IMO) sort of killed some of the cheer and affection some had for each other. I have noticed a number of posters just don't visit or at least post here anymore and I suspect it is due to all the endless political threads.

I am hoping now that the PS conversion has happened and it is a bit easier to post pics (and perhaps video at some point?) some people will return and start sharing again.

I know other posters feel that without the political threads there would be even less action here and perhaps that is true but my feeling is with all the political threads muddying up Hangout and all the negative energy (and yes IMO it is a lot of negative energy here now because of that) it is keeping some posters away. Posters who have been here a very long time and who contributed much to the forum and who are missed a lot (at least by me and I know many others who miss them too).

I think we should continue allowing Political threads but I do think having a separate Political section could be a positive move so others who don't like to sift through all the political stuff can more easily read and post here. I am just going by what some respected posters have shared regarding this topic and that was (from what I interpreted from their posts) the consensus of those longtime respected posters.

Of course I might be wrong but these are my thoughts on this issue. PS has been slowing down a bit over the past couple of years I think (and again I think that is because of all the increase in other options people have in social media) but it is a dramatic decrease over the past year or so and I think in partly it is due to what I wrote above.

I hope people start being more active here because PS is a wonderful place to be (if you can just ignore some of the unpleasantness if you don't want to partake in that and with the ignore feature it is easier than ever to do that if you so choose) and the PS team (thank you Andrey, Ella and everyone else who is involved) has really worked hard to make it user friendly and a wonderful blingy respite from every day life IMO. And I remember the wise words...Be the change you want to see so if you want PS to be more active and more fun please join in and post and share! It is up to all of us to keep PS a wonderful place to visit.:appl::wavey:

Thanks Missy!! Its so great to hear from you :angel::angel: I enjoy political discussions but honestly the threads just don't seem to be very interesting after a while--it seems like much of the same just goes around in circles. I wonder what we could do to get more going on the boards? I think participation can be a bit of a 'when it rains, it pours' issue--when there are a lot of posters, its easy to share and get involved. When there aren't, it can get intimidating to post and there are less opportunities to get involved.

+1 to Missy...I got tired of having to tip-toe through all the political threads. Thread after thread after
thread...just somewhat of a downer to come over to hangout sometimes. I have a few threads I'd
like to have some opinions on but I'm such an introvert that I dont always like responding (even to
my own threads <insert embarrassing emoticon that turns red>). I guess I should just bite the bullet
and post:shifty:.

szh07, good to see you too! And I get it and agree. It can be more difficult to post and start topics when there are less people around participating.

tyty, I hear you. I, for one, would love to see you here more often and I have a feeling I am not the only person here who feels that way!

It's slow... even RT is boring... :blackeye:

msop...you need to start a new project so we have something to comment on in RT!

Thanks Missy for the comments...you are very kind!

If you help me find money I will go buy more bling and post about it! 2017 is my bling diet but I still managed to squeak in the VCA pendant and 5 motif bracelet and the new studs.

Unfortunately I've bought blinds for my kitchen and need some soffits and fascia boards replace don't before I replace the balance of my leaders and gutters with copper ones. There goes my bling money! But if the annual home improvement project ends up being cheaper than anticipated then I will go and buy a YG dbty and post lololol!

Much slower.

I have been around less in part because I am busy with school and in part because I have too much negativity around me and can't find the energy many days to scroll past the seemingly endless political threads. I am glad people are discussing, but I have too much of it in my day already and don't want to participate in them. Yes, I can and do scroll past to other stuff, but it is difficult when there are so many. They also tend to remind me of unpleasant conversations I already had with other people.

Rocky Talky seems slower since Gypsy left to pursue her career in the trade. I miss Gypsy's presence.

I wonder if we could convince the mods to have more 24 hr threads. It was interesting and I would post more if I knew all my comments wouldn't stick around. Due to my DH's job I have security and privacy concerns (long story). I wiped my photos awhile back because of this.

Edit to add that I agree the negativity in some of the mentioned threads is contributing as well.

I agree! For some reason (despite knowing people can screenshot or whatever so it can stick around), it felt like a "safer" place for lack of a better description. A place where we could talk about stuff without having it come back later in searches or having to see it long after the desire to talk about it is gone. I also feel like it is somewhat temporary as I think most people respect it and wouldn't do screenshots or anything. (That says nothing of guests or bots, but it is something!)

I miss seeing Gypsy post all the time! Made the beef/lime recipe she shared with me in a thread a couple of years ago for dinner tonight. It is still one of my favorite recipes.

I miss Gypsy too!!! I wonder if the mods should consider that more people in the trade other than the wonderful people who already post, should be allowed to help people here provided there is no conflict of interest in what they are selling or who they work for in those posts.

I know a few of the coloured stone people moved into the trade and I think the place would benefit from a few of them returning again or at least being able to post more frequently.

I think IG is killing the place too.....

I agree with this! I really enjoyed the 24 hour thread, and I was bummed that I didn't get back to it late that night or the next morning to see what had transpired after I last saw it. It was gone by the time I got back to PS. I think the sheer number of replies to that thread indicate that others liked it too - perhaps we can request a weekly thread?

Dear IndyLady apologies for contacting you via PS - I was unable to find a way to PM you over PS. I've emailed you over LoupeTroop re one of your listings but not sure if you are receiving the messages. Thanks.

Nothing have changed since I been here. If you posted something against the left wing agenda they'll skin you alive...:mrgreen2:

Hi Indy, good to see ya :mrgreen2:

I do what I can to keep PS jumpin ... but I'm just little ol me.

Yes, you do. And thank you. :wavey:

But to keep a forum vibrant we need more unusual, risk-taking balls-to-the-wall posters here.

Most posters left here today are predictable, overly-polite, fearful, and PC. :knockout:
Primping their nice-person image is their priority.
Boring! :snore::snore::snore:

Nothing wrong with being nice or boring, people vary and all, but we're discussing why a forum dies.

I’m a lurker since 2009, and I post for about 4 years, but not too frequently. I have always loved RT, but it has really slowed down. I usually look at PS at lunch time and in the evening, but sometimes there are no new threads in 8 hours!! It was completely different a few years ago!
I miss those times, and I also miss Gypsy!

Thank you Kenny!!! You were the person who kept Hangout active. We all need to come up with more threads, I think of things and tell myself no will care or post in the thread and decide not to open the thread. I should just open the thread. Who knows maybe someone will be interested enough to post and if they don't, it's not a big deal.

Yes, start threads!

I was hesitant to start the thread about nature/wildlife photos, but @monarch64 encouraged me. I'm so glad I did. I love the amazing photos shared by PS members! I just need to figure out how to get @kenny to share more photos. I know he's an amazing photographer! @kenny , are you out there listening?!?!

There's no rule that threads can only be started if the topic is of interest to everyone.

I'll try to follow my own advice and start more threads. Don't know how typical this progression is, but I lurked for a long time before joining, then slowly started commenting, and then started the odd thread.

I should comment more. And start more threads.

@kenny , most, if not all, of my views these days are not politically-correct.
I keep my mouth shut. Most of the time.
Sometimes, I can't help it and erupt like Mount Saint Helens.
It does no good.

Life in Canada lately is like being sober in the back seat of a car while the guy in the front passenger seat yells at the kid driving 'Dude, stop texting while you drive! That's dangerous! And quit hogging the joint, Man!'

Yeah, fun times.

@december-fire - I'm waiting for you to sell the dragonfly marshmallow shirts!!!

@december-fire - I'm waiting for you to sell the dragonfly marshmallow shirts!!!

Pinto, Sweetie, I can't get my act together!
I'm in a funk. Or whatever the word is.
Some stupid, narcissistic kid is ruining my Country! :angryfire:
My hard-earned dollars are being given to people who hate my Country. What the hell?!?!
Being responsible, contributing to society, and actually having real values is so passe, apparently.
Overspending, living-in-the-moment, fraud, hating the Country and looking for hand-outs is the new way of life.
Please insert a bunch more whining and complaining. Like lots and lots.

Ugh. Usually, I quarantine myself when I'm not able to smile and play nice.

So, aside from that, life's great. How are things with you?
