What is the catch? I looked at some of the diamonds there and found them significantly cheaper than the jewelers I visited and some of the stones have class 1a (table and depth at least). I find many diamonds that match my criteria but are signifcantly lower than the dealers. I also looked up a book by fred culler and that is even more than my jewelers. I am very confused!

What about dirtcheapdiamonds? What am I missing? Is there a catch?

The only catch is...that there is no catch. In the past 6 months I have purchased 3 stones from Jim with help also from Josh and Jen. I have found them to be professional, very honest and helpful - if it looks like garbage, or if they know what you are looking for and also know you wouldn't be pleased - they will tell you. I would go back to them in a heartbeat.

Just my experience

Ditto the sentiment on Fred Cueller!

When my fiance and I started shopping, I totally fell for Fred Cuelelr's "advice." It wasn't after I came across discussions on forums like this that I came to my senses. However, the damage was done. Google his name and you'll come up with tons of info.

Advice on shopping:

1)Take your time looking around
2)Buy from the internet--you'll get tons more info on the diamond you're getting than you ever wanted to know. B&M stores tend to be more strict with return policy & trade-in policy.

My DF and I are waiting for a Signature Ideal from DirtCheapDiamonds! We can't say enough good things about the service we've gotten from Jim Schultz, he's always responded promptly to telephone inquiries and has been able to speak quite frankly about the stones we were looking at. Once we found the stone, we sent him a picture of the Tacori setting we were looking at and he went outside what he normally sells to find a similar style setting that we ended up purchasing and hopefully we'll have the ring in a few days (waiting for the $$ to clear).

I don't think there's a catch either--we found DCD's prices to be very competitive once we started comparing apples to apples (higher quality cut diamonds), but Jim's customer service won us over.

Good luck hunting!

I just recently purchased a 0.26 H&A Rd SI-1 M color med blue stone from there ideal cuts section in loose diamonds, I have to tell you i thought they made a mistake this stone looks near colorless and i purchased this stone for under 200.00. I highly recommend DCD for all your diamond needs. Thanks to Jim, Jen, and Josh
