Is a 62% table width and 12% crown height bad?

Is the spec''s listed in the title a bad cut? It is listed by EGL as very good when the total depth is 60.5%, and pavilion depth is 43%.

That doesn''t really give the pitch of the crown but a wider table and smaller crown kindof makes up for each other, right? So is there something necessarily crappy about that cut?

Still shopping :) Thanks for all of your help so far!

The table is large yes, can you post all the proportions please Drew, then we can take a look for you. A table of that size implies that the diamond isn't cut to top standards and you can do better, but if you are interested in this one post the rest of the info. Labels such as Very Good cut don't always mean anything unfortunately and are no guarantee of a diamond being cut to a certain standard.

The table is really big with a shallow crown. I'd pass--since your still shopping.

:)

I went around and looked at loose diamonds for a while. Took my girlfriend''s "wedding band" that she has been wearing for a while now (yeah - not exactly the traditional order I know).

The wedding band has 5 x .3 carat stones on there. They are not as transparent as the average SI1 or better rock. They are as good as the average SI2-I1. Under a loupe, you can see a whole lot of carbon specs in the wedding band stones. The diamonds are very nice looking, but they are certainly far from perfect. I am interested in getting a diamond whch is pretty darn good up against the wedding band, but the *really good* diamonds look a bit too good.

In general, I found that the average 1 carat loose stone that looked good against the wedding band was selling for around $4000 and I could talk them down to about $3000. These are storefront prices.
