If it''s a custom setting, yes. Sometimes it takes even longer depending on how busy they are.

IDK exactly what the definition of "custom" setting is... I''m talking about settings that are shown on their website, for example

Custom means they make each piece to your stone when you order it. A stock setting is something they have 50 of just sitting there waiting to plop your diamond into.

It can be; it really depends on variables you haven''t mentioned.

Some of those include:

*Does your vendor have onstaff bench jewelers, or does he have to send work out to be done?
*Are you ordering a ''designer'' setting? If so, it can take a while to bring a setting in from a design house, especially during shut-down periods or religious holidays as are going on right now.
*Some vendors carry a lot of stock on hand; others like ourselves create-to-order.
*Even for those vendors who carry stock on hand, is the piece melee-intensive? If so, it may not size well and that means making it from scratch in the proper size. That takes nearly as long as creating a custom piece (minus the CAD designs).
*How many other orders are in the production schedule ahead of yours? That may also lead to a bit more wait times.

Still, comparably speaking, four weeks isn''t a terribly large completion window compared to other customized products. Furniture orders can take 8-10 weeks to complete, and ordering a new car can take even longer.

here is WF shipping policies http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds_info/t/confidence.aspx?articleid=308&zoneid=2

Pls correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the reputed merchants offer overnight shipping but then it turns out that only applies to buying just a stone or just a ring. Add the two together, and you're looking at 4 weeks?
Overnight shipping applies to any product once it's ready to ship. However, if you're ordering something that isn't already ship-ready, it has to be completed.

So, if you walk into the bakery and there is a vanilla cake already made in the case, you can have it in five minutes. If you decide you want a chocolate cake and there are none already made, it may take four additional hours to mix the ingredients, bake it, cool, frost and decorate it.

Most of the vendors here follow a create-on-demand model. Those of us who carry inhouse diamond inventory can ship a stone as soon as payment clears. If you want the stone set, it has to incur extra time/labor to set it. If the setting you want isn't already in stock and has to be made, that adds more time. Once the product is fully created/assembled, it will still ship overnight, but it may take some time to create/assemble the ring before it reaches the 'ship-ready' stage.
