Hello, I am looking for a good cut a carat diamond around an h color and that has a vs2 to an si1 clarity. Also I want it eye clean. Do you think what I am willing to spend, can I still find a really nice diamond? or do I need to spend more? Oh yeh and I am looking for a princess cut.

I think that you''re going to have to raise your budget a bit.

I''m not the best person for cut around here, but this is an I, VS2 at 1.10 for $4,441 at WF

Or maybe this at JA. It''s a 1 carat, H, VS2 for $4,010.

Like I said, I''m not a great person to judge cut so maybe someone else will step in. I think that if you raise your budget just a bit that it''d fall into the top end of your budget.

Does the $3,000 - $3,800 include the setting as well?

no not including the setting. That is just how much for the diamond alone. I just want it to look eye clean, not a yellowy color, and have a great sparkle to it.

I definitely think you can something within that range! That''s exactly the parameters that I am looking for and you can definitely get something really nice at the higher end of your range.

Do a search on the more well known sites...I have found the best prices at whiteflash.com, dimendscaasi.com, and adiamor.

You can also go to SI2 on clarity just make sure you ask if it is eye clean (and ask what the jeweler considers "eye clean"!). Unless the people that are going to be looking at the stone are trained gemologists....you should be OK going to SI2.

You can also save some $$ by going just under a 1 carat stone....the difference between a .96 carat and 1.00 will not be noticeable, but the price difference could be. Talk to the sales people at those sites....they are usually really good and will tell you where you can skimp to get the size you want without sacrificing beauty/quality.

That''s just my 2 cents and what I have learned through my research! Good luck!

Realistically you need a higher budget. About 4400-4800 is what a one carat Ideal/ Excellent cut H VS2-SI is going for. Cut is the most important factor in making sure your diamond doesn't look yellow. I would stick to AGS000 diamonds and raise your budget.

Or maybe this at JA. It''s a 1 carat, H, VS2 for $4,010. Is not really square at 1.05 ratio.

Addy''s advice is good regarding budget.

so you think if I went with a signature ideal cut, can I go with an I color without it looking yellow?

Well. Princesses will show more color than rounds. Even ideal cut. So it REALLY is a personal thing. I don't mind a little warmth in my stones. And I would be okay with an I princess. But it's a very personal thing. Somepeople can tell the difference between an F and a G and it bothers them so they stick with F. Other's have lovely J and K stones they adore.

I can't advise you on color. I can tell you that the better the cut, the brighter the stone, the brighter the stone, the more light is coming out of it, the less body color is showing so... better cut means less yellow between an average cut I and an ideal cut I. I can't tell you that between two ideal cut princesses one H and one I you won't see the difference.

Thanks, Gypsy! I''m okay on cuts for rounds (not as good as Ellen, but who is

) but for other shapes I mostly let others speak up. I need to learn somehow though!

I''m not that great on anything other than ECs and Step cuts honestly. I''ve just been on here for so long I''ve absorbed some stuff. You''ll get there honey. You''re doing great from what I can tell!.
