Hi, Jo! Glad you had a good Christmas!
9.gif

Well, my job is kind of a problem right now. I recently got a performance review that was not (in my opinion, anyway) as fair as it should have been. This isn''t the only problem, but just one of the biggies. There have been quite a few things over the nine and a half years that I''ve been there that have been bothersome. I think I''m finally getting to the point where it''s a good idea to see what else is out there. I used to think that I would work for this firm until I retire, but I just don''t see that happening now. I have a couple ideas (one in particular) for new jobs that might be better for me in a number of ways. It''s just SOOOO hard to make this kind of a decision when I''ve been with this firm for so long.
15.gif

I haven''t really been happy for a while now. It just seems like things keep changing, and not for the better. I don''t think that trend is going to stop anytime soon either, unfortunately. So, at this point, I''m kinda looking around to see what else is out there!
1.gif

How''s everything with your job and your DH''s job? This economy sucks, and it seems like people are getting laid off left and right. I''m definitely planning to hang onto the job I have now until I have something else lined up, that''s for sure!
14.gif
Ahhh......I see. That is a very hard decision. But, better to make it now, then after another 10 years have passed you by, and its harder to make a transition. But being its a small company, I''m sure that makes it even more difficult. Your not just a number when there''s only 5 peeps.....Keep you chin up. And be fair to yourself. You have to do what will make you happy. Is there a chance that you could return to the job further down the road if you don''t find something better?

My job is great. I truely love what I do and I get a great deal of joy from that. I work with a great group of people and have some wonderful friendships. That being said, there are still tough times for us. Even in the medical field, jobs get cut, things get downsized, etc. etc...There''s actually a big meeting tonight to discuss moving all of the medical records and radiology jackets to a central location. Our company has 10 different clinics, and each building has its own medical record room and radiology file room, with people to man that. If they combine to this "central locale" more than likely, people will be losing their positions. Its very hard to see this happen, even though my job is safe, its still the people that I work with very directly.
DH is basically just your typical entrapeneur. He does a bit of everything, and works for himself, so he''s not getting laid off anytime soon!

Hmmmm . . . I don''t know if I could ever come back to this job in the future (or if I would even want to). The partners would probably take my quitting very personally, since I''m the most senior employee and since I''ve been there so long. I think they would have no feelings of guilt about firing me, but they would be very resentful toward me if I quit. Nice, huh????
20.gif

That''s a shame about some of your co-workers possibly losing their jobs! I know it must be hard to watch that happen and not be able to do anything about it. What exactly do you do?

I''m thinking there are some very ungood dynamics going on there, based on this statement. Sorry. There are always just so many variables that get thrown into life, and its hard to choose which path to take. I''ve always been a proponent of the cliche "follow your heart."

Yeah, I have to agree that the dynamics aren't great. It's a shame too . . . things used to be very different there, but it seems that they keep changing for the worse.

Cool, Jo! I didn't know you were an x-ray tech! I always thought that would be a fun job. Do you love it? What kind of training/education did you have to have to become an x-ray tech? Is it easy to find a job in that field?
21.gif

On a happier note, I have a good friend who knows the situation with my job. (She and I see each other relatively often because we board our horses at the same barn.) She called me today to check and make sure I was doing OK, and then later on this afternoon I got an arrangement of flowers from her! She is so sweet, and it really made my day!

And I thought all three pairs of sunglasses looked cute on you! I couldn''t decide, which is why I didn''t say which one looked best! LOL! I have SUCH a huge problem finding sunglasses that look right on me, so I''m probably not the best person to ask anyway!

I absolutely love my job. Its great. I get a lot of joy from that. It depends on your area, but yes, its fairly easy to get a job. I did a hospital based program, which was 2 years - year round. No summer breaks or anything. So kinda like 3 regular school years. Some programs require generals to get an associates degree, and others require a bachelors. Depends again, on your area and state licsensure. There ya go - go back to school!

Gosh, I wish you lived close by. I''d love to meet you and get together for coffee!

Things are getting a little better for me at work. I talked to the attorney who I work with the most yesterday morning, and I think we basically worked things out. I'm not saying I'll definitely stay, but I'm gonna give it some time I think.

Hi Irish!
35.gif

I figured I''d stop stalking. I''ve been going through your thread and got to your wedding pictures. HOW BEAUTIFUL!
I just wanted to say HI! I am a bit confused though... why are you a super granny? do you wear large underpants?
33.gif

Sarah ~ Hey, girl! Good to see ya! And I keep meaning to tell you . . . your doggy in your avatar is PRECIOUS! What a little cutie-patootie!!!
30.gif

TLH ~ Aw, I''m so flattered! You''re so sweet! And I had to laugh at the "Supa Granny" comment! That came from an old thread that we had a while back. You should read it . . . it''s HILARIOUS!!! Here it is.

HA! Thanks, that was HILARIOUS! it made me laugh because I actually like it when I am honked at when I am running. (It is a runner to runner compliment, actually. If someone honks at you when you are running in rain, snow, or extreme heat, it is a precursury runner''s waive.) Catcalls are diff... BUT I LOVED THAT THREAD! I think I must have bladder control problems because I think I tinkled a bit laughing about the dentures! ha! I guess I could be a super granny w/ my incontenence issues!

Hey IG, so how''s the whole work situation going? Has it stayed better since your chit chat with the man?
Hey, Jo!
35.gif

Ya know, it''s funny you should ask that question today. Things are going pretty well for ME since the chat, but the partners fired our office manager yesterday!
23.gif

This is very surprising, because she has been here almost as long as I have, and I''ve been here for 9 1/2 years! They called us all into the conference room this morning to tell us the news. They explained that she had been let go due to various personality conflicts she had with other staff members, as well as with some of the partners. (Which is true . . . she was hard to get along with sometimes.) A very good employee actually quit a few years ago because of how our office manager treated her. Evidently, things were headed in that direction with two other employees recently, and the partners decided that they could not afford to keep losing quality employees because of this one person.

The REALLY shocking thing is . . . they offered ME her job!!! I don''t know what to do. I have until the end of the day on Tuesday to decide, or they''re going to offer it to another employee. (They really want to give the position to someone in-house if at all possible, so that there''s a little less of a learning curve for whoever takes the job.) There would be no difference in pay if I take the job, but my responsibilities would be very different. I wouldn''t really be a paralegal at all anymore . . . I would be a bookkeeper/office manager. I would be doing billing, payroll, ordering supplies, banking, etc.

I''m honored that they offered me the job, but I''m really conflicted!

Wow! Congratulations on being offered the job! Even though its a tough call, I''m sure you still must feel totally flattered that would ask you! ((ego boost))
2.gif
That''s kind of a bummer that there''s no pay difference. That might make it an easier decision.
Hmmm.......do you like overall, the duties that you have? Or maybe a switch in pace might help give you some refreshment to change it up.....It might make good resume material though, if you do it for a couple years, and are still thinking in the back of your head that you want to move on eventually. Good luck!

That''s kinda what''s in the back of my mind . . . having office management experience would definitely be a boost to my resume. But, at the same time, I think I would REALLY miss working with the clients. They''re sometimes infuriating, but they''re NEVER boring! LOL!

I''m going to take my time and really think it over. I don''t have to decide until the end of the day on Tuesday, so I do have some time. I talked to DH about it a little bit when I went home at lunchtime (he''s home sick today), and I''m going to discuss it with my Mom on the phone tonight. (She''s very wise!) So I''ll get it sorted out . . . eventually!

It definitely is an ego boost to know that they trust me that much, though!

I exactly get what your saying about not working with the clients.....I''ve often thought about whether or not I''d be interested in pursuing an administration job, but then I just think that after awhile I wouldn''t be happy just being a pencil pusher.

Your mom will have some wisdom for you. Sorry your dh is sicko....Don''t you get sick! No making out!

Yes, well I didn''t say you couldn''t do......other things. Just no making out. Saliva is a good conductor of germ passing. Unless you want to get sick. If so, then by all means!

Well, hey, ya know its valentines day, and I''m by myself, so what better thing to do than crack jokes! But.......on the bright side, I won''t be taking the risk of illness from some germ sharing!
