I''ve been a long time lurker and sometime poster for a while, and I thought I would formally introduce myself over here.

I am a gemstone fanatic. I esp. love sapphires, chrysoberyls and spinels. Diamonds are nice too, but I had to sell my gorgeous cushion cut diamond when I left my job earlier this year. I HOPE the fiance will get me another diamond someday (an emerald cut), but I''m not holding my breath. We''ve been together more than 8 years and are very non-traditional, and he just doesn''t seem to understand the whole engagement ring thing, and he''s getting his PhD, so there''s no money tree right now anyway.

I left my job and moved to be with my fiance earlier this year. He moved here a year and a half ago, and finally talked me into coming along. I wanted to come with him when he moved, but I was trying to get a job here first, but that didn''t happen. I am TERRIFIED of being unemployed and am desperately looking for a job. I have been on a couple of interviews that I am waiting to hear back on, but I am not holding my breath. In the meantime, I am doing some volunteer work with the American Cancer Society and trying to make new friends and get to know my new town. My parents got me a GPS for my birthday and I am thrilled to have it -- no more driving around lost for me!

Other than gems, I love music (my favorite bands are My Chemical Romance, Bon Jovi , the Gaslight Anthem and Green Day, but I love TONS of bands) and travel. My favorite place I''ve visited was Galway, Ireland, and I loved the Aran Islands too.

That''s me in a little nutshell! I hope to become more active on the forum and to get to know all of you better.

well hello

Stacy- good luck with everything, and me too started to get more fascinated with gemstone partcularly spinels.

Thanks, D&T! Colored gemstones are absolutely addictive. I find that I want one of almost everything I read about!

Hi Stacy. Hoping for good luck for you with your job hunt.

I think I may have virtually met you already. Think spessartite in Wink Jones gold setting!? Gorgeous ring, I love it.

stacy -

which town do you live in? i just wondered where you were looking for work as i have a friend who coordinates a cancer information service here in NY.

and thanks for the introduction! it''s nice to meet you and thanks for telling us a bit about yourself. :)

Hi, BizouMom! Is it the oval Richard Homer spess or a round one? I''ve had a couple I''ve let go of over the years because I am an IDIOT -- haha!

Seriously though, I am glad you love it! Thanks so much for the welcome!

Whitby -- I live in Atlanta now. It sounds like your friend has an awesome job in NY! I have always been inspired to help people with cancer. When I was nine, my grandmother died from cancer that they think started in her breast and spread. My poor mom -- it was her mother -- had three very dear friends die from cancer since. And my mom had an occurence of breast cancer that was caught very early and she had a lumpectomy and has been fine since. My brother is currently fighting pancreatic cancer. Thank goodness they caught it early and he was able to have surgery at Johns Hopkins back in January. Now he''s going through chemo and radiation, but so far, so good.

Wow -- not to be a downer -- but I thought I would share why my work with the American Cancer Society is so important to me! I have also done some work with Susan G. Komen For a Cure, but I decided to focus on the American Cancer Society.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!

It was the oval one. I have since replaced the side stones and love it even more.

ETA: Wow, so sorry about all the experiences with cancer in your family.

The oval one was my favorite, BizouMom! The color is sooooo intense. That was a really cool setting too, and i bet it looks awesome with new sidestones. I am so happy you still love it!

Sorry, just saw your response today. I will attempt attaching a picture.

Ahh, BizouMom, it is still gorgeous! It looks so pretty on your hand too... I love the rich red of that stone. I remember that Richard described it as "paprika."

Thanks so much for posting that picture! Seeing it brings back happy memories.
