Hi everyone!

I''m coming out from lurkdom. I''ve learnt SO much from everyone here! My fiance and I found this site when searching for diamond info for a ring a year ago today

We got a beautiful ring from Whiteflash last year.

I have a vivid recollection of the beginning of our ring purchase. We decided early on that it would be our first important joint purchase, and neither of us thought about the science behind diamonds. We bought from a local jeweller, and I was horribly bothered by a few asymmetries in the setting, and it was through scouring the internet to see if I was being "obsessive as usual - but I love you!" that I found SMTR on PS. My fiance and I went back to the jeweller with questions about both diamond and setting, and neither of us were happy with the lack of detail in the answers, so the ring was returned and we started over with a vendor highly recommended on the forum who did a spectacular job

So.. a ring picture (dirty diamonds! this was before the US) and a huge thanks to the many wonderful knowledgeable people on here, you guys are a blessing to couples lucky enough to get here for the big buy. There''s no end of websites that tell you about the 4Cs and advise you on how much to spend, but more detail is much harder to find, and what is there is often in blanket black and white statements that, I''ve come to find, aren''t the whole story -or even necessarily true! Thanks to tutorials and getting sucked into all sorts of threads for hours, even esoteric ones labeled "experts advise" with diamcalc plots and LGF discussions and... I sure don''t feel like an expert, but I DO feel like I know much more about my diamonds than what is listed on the GIA certs. I''ve learnt that the first diamond I had would be considered steep/deep and that I''m partial to shallow stones for both rings and earrings, I''ve learnt how to read idealscope and ASET images and how not to rely on them, I''ve learnt that I''m the sort to consider an I1 if there are no durability or lower brilliance due to clouds issues, something I''d never have dreamed of before PS. And this place is moderated, my Eagles board could learn from that

center is 1.01 sides are 0.31 each, all are G SI1. We''re thinking about an upgrade of the centre for the wedding (I was terrified of wearing something so valuable on my finger all day, so we went smaller and well under budget, but fiance still likes the solitaire look better and after 7 months of not cracking, chipping, scratching or outright losing my sparkly I''m thinking I wouldn''t mind going bigger

), but that''s not for at least a year and we''ll have a great resource for it when we do!

Thanks for sharing your story, I''m happy to hear you had such a positive experience after the initial hiccup with the local vendor. Your ring is really pretty. You know we''d love to see more pics and know more details if you have them.

Good for you! (there''s some "interesting" threads, eh?)

Your ring looks just beautifull! I second wanting to see more pics. Maybe you could ask the mods to move this thread to SMTR, and you can give us more eye candy.
