It seems that there are a bunch of internet wholesalers who are selling the same diamond...is this the case? I would like to search different inventories for a particular stone, but it seems like I''m searching the same inventories over and over...can anyone offer any advice?
There are lists of diamonds available to Retailers from Wholesalers. When you see a diamond (same carat weight, color, clarity, measurements) appearing in a search that is offered by several Vendors, it is one diamond. Each Vendor takes the cost of the diamond, adds their costs to do business, and offers the stone for a given price. There are Vendors that offer "List" diamonds who "Drop/Ship" direct from the wholesaler to the buyer without ever seeing the diamond. Other Vendors have the diamond shipped to them first for evaluation. That's why you see variances in pricing on the same diamond.
There are also Vendors who physically own diamonds offered for sale. Those diamonds are the in the inventory of that Vendor and are not available for sale by other Vendors. White Flash offers an Expert Selection of hand selected diamonds that do not always appear in a Price Scope search. Good Old Gold has an Additional H&A search engine of diamonds available from Brokers. Dirt Cheap Diamonds has their Signature Series collections of diamonds. You might also check Diamond Brokers of Florida and SuperbCert.
most vendors on line download from the same suppliers,as these suppliers make their inventory excisable. With the exception of some also having their own inventory on their websites.
Markup's vary ,to suffice cost of doing business, that's why you might see the same stone at different sites for more/less money.
Interestingly enough if you work with someone well connected in the biz you can do better than the big online venders. If you have a local jeweler who has access too that directory of stones sometimes you can get them at the same or better than internet prices if its a jewelry store that is not a dinosaur, Sometimes you can even have the stone shipped in for viewing before you buy...and of course one should buy it from there local guy if they have it or can get it at the same price or better...or even if its a little more. Local goldsmiths are getting harder to find.
