I had a client come in this week with an internet purchase, He had spent lots of time researching through Price Scope and was very appreciative of all the help it provided him to make a wise buying decision.
He bought a pear shape over 1 1/4 carats with a GIA report. Clarity SI-2 Color H. I had to disagree with the report and call it an I-1 and F. Please note that I am an AGS ICGA lab and my master stones are dead on. I like showing the clients their purchases under the scope and explaining why I feel it should be graded as it is. And I do the same with the color. He concured with me on both grades. But as we were going through all this, bottom line was the pricing. Did he pay a fair price for what he got? The purchase price was under $3,000. So he was very happy and felt he had made a wise choice. This is a good example of why to have a qualified appraiser examine your purchase. They are working for the consumer. I like to say I am the Seeing Eye Dog for my clients. A fun job but someone has to do it!
I keep reading postings that seem to think there is no need to have reports verified...food for thought!
