I hope it''s ok to ask for referrences here...

I was sort of ''shopping'' for forums that discuss current events, politics, media, etc...and found a few. But they were obviously heavily biased either to the left or the right.

Can anyone recommend sites where issues are discussed with a modicum of civility, even handedness, and intelligence?

Thanks!

My brother likes The Drudge report, but I suspect that is right leaning.

Thanks, JJ...I''ve heard of it, and will check it out.

I sorta wished I''d entitled this thread: "What''s your favorite Blog?"

You know what--I would rename it and put it maybe in hangout. I''d love to see what folks say. Good topic.

Yes, great topic. If there are such forums I''d love to know what they are, but in the meanwhile, I prefer books. More information and far less argumentative.

I just saw this - Widget you crack me up. It a perfect world! I find that the moderates tend to be drowned out by the polars - in most aspects of life. Extremes are usually heard - and sadly taken as norms.

But, if you do find one - I''d love to know about it.

Widget,

I find Jerry Pournelle''s Chaos Manor enlightening. It is a moderated forum, and encourages intelligent, well thought out letters on a range of topics.

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/mail/currentmail.html

Pournelle does not hide his point of view, but he makes a point of entertaining other points of view. Pournelle is a science fiction writer, and his wife is a teacher. He expects asks scientists to be skeptical; science fiction to emphasize the practical; and schools to teach 98% of children to read by the end of first grade.
