Hi,
1) Is it ok to insure my engagement ring through our insurance company (State Farm) or is it better to go with an insurance company who specializes in jewelery? (Jewelers Mutual or the like)

Is State Farm adequate enough? We have our auto and other insurance with them, so it's convenient.

2) I'm considering having a custom setting made--if I use Whiteflash, do they give you an appraisal when the ring is finished? Or do I have to send it to an appraiser for that? My stone was purchased from a brick and mortar store.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Check your small print carefully Laila or better still contact your agent at SF and discuss what is covered/ what is not covered with your new ring with them. If SF don't provide the level of cover you want try -

www.jewelersmutual.com as you mentioned

www.chubb.com

www.touchstoneinsurance.com

Yes WF will give you an appraisal with the completed ring you can use for insurance purposes with diamonds and jewellery pieces they make, you would need to check if they would give you an appraisal in this case as they didn't sell the diamond.

I have my set insured thru State Farm, it is on its own personal property rider, I have not had to file a claim thank goodness, but I have talked to my agent many times to see what is covered and I have read the "coverage" page and it appears its covered for just about everything, but you should give them a call.
