Hi I am trying to get my loose diamond set but the jeweler requires it to be insured before he can do any work. I read some of the threads on this website discussing this topic and most of them are shipping their loose diamonds to the jeweler but i am dropping it off in person. I called a jewelry insurance company and they told me it is not a common thing to insure your loose diamond for it to be set? since this is my first time setting a loose stone, just wanted to learn why a jeweler would require an insurance especially i will be dropping off the diamond and picking up the setting in person? saw a couple of jeweler online but they don't require insurance to be purchased and they will provide insurance for the loose stone you bring to them. also would home insurance for personal item suffice?? thanks for the help
