Insurance for E-rings

I've been searching, and while I have certainly found lots of interesting information on appraisals, I haven't yet found reviews or suggestions on how and what kind of insurance policies to buy for engagement rings.

Can anyone make some suggestions on how to buy insurance, reputable providers, etc? I'm thinking there must be some understanding of companies that give you a real hassle, and companies that just pay and move on with life, just like with automobiles.

Or, if this info already exists on the site, would you please point me to the correct spot?

I think my girlfriend will be carrying the ring with her to Italy, whereupon I'll take it from her. She won't know what it is...just a package my brother told her to bring to me. But I would like to have it insured, if possible, before she takes it. It might not be possible because I won't have an independent appraisal done yet.

Jeweler's Mutual is able to insure with a sales receipt I think, but you have to have a permanent address in US. Do you still have one under your name, like living with your parents or if not maybe insured under your brother or your girlfriend's name?

Yup, my primary residence is in the US. I just work here in Italy.
