Hi there,

This is my first post on the forum after finding it very useful while looking for an engagement ring. This field is new to me, and I have tried to absorb as much information - also using the HCA tool when surveying diamonds.

My significant other and I want to go with a lab grown diamond and have been looking at a few different companies.

I found this round diamond which seems to have good specs - it is rated as an excellent/super ideal cut and is rated excellent by the GCAL certificate. However, when I put its specs in the HCA tool it received a score of 2.1 - although it also estimated it to be both in the GIA Excellent cut category and AGS 0 Ideal. I understand that the depth is a little high, but besides that, what do you think of the report and images?

Specs:
Round brilliant
1.61 carat
Cut: Ideal
Colour I
Clarity VS1
Depth: 62.5%
Table: 56%
Crown angle: 35
Pavillion angle: 41
Fluorescence: none

I thought it looked good, but would obviously appreciate any opinions. Trying to find the best option within our budget.

Thanks in advance!

I just plotted it, and it actually falls out of AGS ideal. I would keep looking. The HCA is such a significant tool and it doesn’t lie.

41 pavilion with 35 crown is a bit 'steep/deep' and likely to show some light leakage from the pavilion / through the table.

It scores 2.2 on the HCA tool, so just outside the range you ideally want (i.e. under 2) but some stones up to perhaps a score of 2.5 are worthy of consideration.

Keep on looking, I would say, if you have time, but it is not a 'bad' stone so could be an option.
