A quick search on PS main page shows that the diamond you posted seems to be priced well under what vendors listed on PS.

As for cut quality, well, I don't know enough about RB cut quality to be able to comment further. I'm hoping others will chime in and share what they think.

The "white & clean & brilliant" trio of qualities in a round would read "G/H-VS2/SI1-ideal cut" to me. So I would rather slow down that clarity (the difference between VVS and VS should be invisible, given the weight range and the standard for these grades) and get a better cut - or at leats one I know more about. With ponly depth and table known, well, there is a 50% risk that the stone does not display reasonable brilliance: not that many diamonds are ugly, but some are much more brilliant than others. While many details are at play to insure this, the strogest factor are thsoe fables crown and pavilion angles. GIA reports do not include them - AGS and EGL (% in this case) do, and they can also be obtained via a Sarin report.

I have one more reason to believe this tsone is not the best cut out there: if it was, the seller could hope for a premium and would have opted for a cert that does state cut quality - I suppose. The VVS clarity is used as a 'catch' too, so it owuld have been nice to sell this as an 'ideal cut' - only it is not. I am not sure I one would want to pay 8k to find out how far from the desirable prportions this one falls

I am not really advocating those Harts and Arrows cuts - if one wants to go that far, why not, however, dull diamonds make little sense to me, so....

... can you get more info on this, or get it appraised for cut quality before the purchase becomes final?

The price is nice, if this turns out a nice cut, otherwise... well, why on Earth ?

The good thing... this is by no means too expensive compared to those better cut pieces on dispaly!

Such as: 1.5 H VS2 and 1.52 I VS2 and 1.52 I VS1

The point is: one can get a rather precise guess about how these actually look - while the H-VVS remains a mistery until one gets to compare it with some reference on the ground. This extra certainty makes for the price difference, I suppose.

However, diamonds are diamonds - not bad material

Some pieces just get better treatment than others !

Hi Belro,

Congrats on your upcoming engagement! Could you please provide us with more information, if possible? As Ana mentioned, we need to know not only the table and depth % but the crown and pavilion angles of the diamond as well in order to be able to give a basic assessment of the cut.

You can get the crown and pavilion angles on the stone from a Sarin report, if you do not already have one. The Sarin report, which is provided by some vendors and appraisers separate from the GIA certificate, offers a quantitative analysis of the diamond’s cut including the ever-important crown and pavilion angles.

Once you have these figures, plug them into the Holloway cut advisor (please see “cut advistor” at the top of pricescope) which will provide a score and give you a general idea of how your stone shapes up.

Also, could you please kindly confirm that the $8500 price is for the total 1.56 cts. and not on a per carat basis? Please keep us posted and congrats once again!

thanks for the info...I greatly appreciate it...To answer your question on price...It was $8,500 for full purchace price...which I believe makes it $5448.71 per carat, right? Also I was wondering if there is a way to figure our the angles using the measurements...if so I would appreciate the formula...I took pics of the diamond...I will try to post asap...thanks all

You need to get a sarin report to get the angles.

Hi Belro,

Thanks for the clarification. You may want to review prior threads here on the forum on crown and pavilion angles (do a search under formula at the top of the forum page) as you can't calculate those measurements from just the information that you currently have. Again, you would need a Sarin report on the stone.

Looking forward to seeing pics!

Kindest regards always,
Linda

Hi Belro,

Thanks for posting this pic. Initially, you asked us for our opinion based on the specs mentioned. Please understand that from the numbers you listed, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to give you a basic assessment of the cut. Again, if you can please try and get the crown and pavilion angles for the stone that would help us tremendously.

That being said, each diamond is beautiful in its own way and there is something for everybody out there. Sometimes, it can be a matter of patience and timing in finding the right diamond for you. However, when you find the beauty that speaks to you, then it’s yours irrespective of what anyone says.

You have obviously seen this stone in person. Does it speak to you? If so, then you have found your love that meets your budget. However, if this diamond is still only a consideration for you and you are still looking around, then I would make every effort possible to find out more about the stone (i.e. crown and pavilion angles).

With the information that you’ve posted, I think the diamond is lovely for the price as long as you are fully aware of what you are purchasing and you are getting what you are looking for with that purchase.

Hope this helps and congrats, once again, on your upcoming engagement.

Kindest regards always,
Linda
