Just bought on the bistro. Need help on a setting. Thinking of yellow gold, but should I do dia, or emeralds, or sapphire sides or halo? Here's a pict my stone, somewhere I have a pic to dig up of a setting I saw once...., don't know who's ring , but I've saved the pic for years as my holy grail tourmaline....anyhow here's my stone I'm waiting on

You'll probably need very long and thick prongs for that cab, just so you know. I'm not sure what your budget is or if you're going with a premade setting or having a custom setting. Please advise. I think yellow gold would suit the stone best.

I have a jeweller who will make me anything I want (very addictive!) I'm thinking a bezel type setting. Heavy yellow gold. Yellow diamonds around?

That sounds nice, just be careful that his bezel work is good. Many jewelers botch bezels, and they end up looking lumpy and uneven.

One can never go wrong with a diamond halo.

Hi all, got the stone yesterday. It's very pretty, but is uneven, one end . Hard to explain, at one end of the stone it's like one corner is off but the other is there. So, don't know how to set it, a halo wouldn't work, I'm stumped.

It would probably have to be custom work. You could still do a bezel.

Hmmm it's just that with it being uneven, I guess I'm slightly neurotic, would drive me nuts. Sigh.

Well, did you know it would look tapered before you ordered the stone? If so, and if you still like it, you could still do a bezel, but it would have a more organic feel to it I suppose, due to the shape of the stone.

Don't mean to threadjack here, but evergreen, that Etsy site is cool. I'm surprised I've never come across her stuff before.

Can you give us a picture please? Just so wwe can see how "off" it is. Is it one side, one corner, or more of a trap shape (wider one end than the other.

WOW!! Either of those prong ideas from Melanie Casey would work - what a brilliant idea! Hmm... prongs need work for PS standards though  And I'd want to see the back.

I'm surprised I'd never heard of her, either; her work is so distinctive! The prongs are a little lumpy but she's probably not used to working with people who notice these things -- I do like their robustness for these less-transparent stones. :)

Echoing the call for more photos!
ETA: And dimensions, please. :)

Ping, sapphirecats? Any info on your tourm? (Have you fallen out of love?)

May have fallen out of love, meh...how do I set this? I'm thinking silver...

Can you have it recut to a shape that you like?

What is your nail polish?

Preg's suggestion of a recut is a good one, if you are really not a fan of its shape. (It sure is unconventional... does it not even really have a flat side? Do you think it might have enough depth to cut into an elongated step-cut?) I think it would still look great in a rustic silver/YG two-tone setting, maybe with some accent gypsy-set diamonds, but it's a very particular look & might not work for everyone!

I think it will look great in a more modern-ish style pendant.
