Independent appraiser

Finally purchased the diamond engagement ring online and it looks beautiful.

Now I need to get an independent appraisal. I think I know the answer but is it better to get someone from the Jewelry Judge or from a big B&M store (Birks since I''m in Canada).

What is the difference between the appraising? Same equipment, etc?
