I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the diamond and custom made setting that I purchased from WF for my (hopefully) soon to be fiance. The diamond that I purchased is from the "A Cut Above," collection and includes a free verification letter from an independent appraiser and a hearts and arrows viewer.

First, with this verification letter, can I go straight to an insurance company and have it insured according to the specs on the letter, or should I have it appraised again? I was told the letter includes The weight/color/clarity of the diamond and that all measurements match the original grading document from the AGS, Laser inscriptions setting details, and the approximate retail replacement value.

Also, with the diamond already being set, can I still use the hearts and arrows viewer to check out the pattern, or will a loupe only be helpful since the stone will already be set.

thanks everyone for all of your help and comments.

Id get it independantly appraised.
Not that I dont trust whiteflash its just a good idea.
If there is ever an issue there is a 3rd party involved if needed.

You can view the arrows when its mounted but not the hearts.
A loupe is a good thing to have.
Study the diamond and the setting with a loupe so you can check it yourself as needed.
I recomend overy 3 months or so checking it yourself and having it professionaly checked/cleaned once or twice a year.

Vendor supplied documentation is not an independent appraisal although most insurance companies are happyt to accept them as fulfilling their requirements to bind a policy.

Here is a discussion about why you might consider getting an appraisal on something that already has some documentation.

So even if WF engraves the stone with the AGS number and "a cut above hearts and arrows" on the girdle, they give you, what they label an "independent appraisal," and insurance companies will take this assesment for insurance purposes, you all recommend getting it appraised again?

Thanks to both strmrdr and neil for your input.
