Inclusion on AGS clarity plot, but not in Key to Symbols?

Hi all --

First time poster, long time reader of these forums. Want to thank everyone who contributes to this forum for all of the tremendously helpful information and help that they provide. I've learned such a great deal about diamonds, cut, HCA, lgf %'s, etc. in such a short amount of time. It's taken a lot of the fear and uncertainty out of diamond shopping!

I'm currently in the market for a RB and recently ran across the following clarity plot. From the images I have, the diamond looks both eye and 10X loupe clean.

My understanding was that key to symbols in the new AGS certs are supposed to show all inclusions on the clarity plot and are ordered from most important to least important in grading the diamond.

But, the thing that stands out on this AGS cert are the lines (feathers, needles?) all along the girdle facets. But, none of these features are listed in the Key to Symbols.

Does anyone know what's going on with this clarity plot? Have a missed something in my education in AGS certs?

Those must be the clouds under the crown facets. I tried to enlarge the picture and it looks like the lines may be dotted.

Thanks, diamondseeker. The interesting thing is that this is supposed to be a VS1. That's a lot of clouds for such a clarity grade?

I can't see the clouds myself -- here's a pic of the stone.

if it is graded VS1...nothing to worry about. it looks like a very nice diamond!

How interesting!

I decided to give AGS a call regarding this clarity plot. The client service rep I spoke to on the phone had never seen anything like this before, and had to talk to some folks internally to get the definitive answer.

What they came back with was that they are basically very fine twinning wisps that don't rise to the level of a twinning wisp designation, but are instead classified as clouds.

Anyone have any thoughts, concerns on these cloud-like twinning wisps?

One slightly unrelated off-topic thought --

I was really impressed by the kindness and patience of the folks over at AGSL. I've never dealt directly with GIA so this is not any comparison with them, but the level of candor and service AGS provided (even to someone who was just curious about one of their reports and not one of their customers) was fantastic. For those who are members of AGSL, you've got a great organization there providing a tremendous service to the market.

No worries whatsoever with a VS1. The stone looks gorgeous! Clarity plots have little to do with how the stones really look because even almost invisible inclusions are plotted in red!
