hi everyone, I'm in need of help!

I’m looking to propose in july, I’m already set on round, 6 prong, 1.-1.2 carat, budget is about $8000-$10000 . what I’m looking for is shiny (when lights hits that ring people be like dameee lol) now is hearts and arrows is something ill be looking into? also the colour and clarity I’ve heard that bigger size (larger carat) the higher grade the better obviously but in a 1 carat. some times an si1 could do the trick?

if i missed out any info let me know. I'm still new to this and I've always read about the 4 c's but seem like there is a lot more to it e.g. fluorescence. so ive been overwhelm with info.

TIA.

Hi Help,
An SI1 CAN do the trick very well. There are several vendors on Pricescope that can fix you up with that "dayyyummmm" ring for your lady  There are different types of cuts, hearts and arrows being a very popular pick. Did you have an idea how you want to set the diamond? Do you want a halo or a solitaire? part of the budget will need to be set aside for the setting (500 or less for a gold solitaire all the way up to 3500 or more for a custom made diamond confection). I would figure that out and work backwards on budget. Some of the vendors here give a Pricescope discount (tell em you were referred from PS).

To see some dayyyyummm bling in action, go check out Wink's site http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=diamond-search and check out the videos (little blue film icon beside some diamonds). These are some of the finest cuts around...check out the videos. many other vendors have great stones too, I just like watching Wink's eyecandy ****. they tend to give you a good idea of how "blingy" a well cut diamond can get.

James Allen has 3D rocks you can check out.
Whiteflash is also well reguarded
So is Goodoldgold (awesome for their information on each diamond)
There are many more I didn't mention here.

You can also check out the bling thread and look for styles you like, if you are not yet sure of what you are looking for.

Hi Inneed,
$8000-$10,000 is a good budget for that size. I definitely think that cut is the most important factor to get that "bling" look with diamonds and then symmetry on top of that is beautiful to me. Whiteflash and Brian Gavin Diamonds have the look that I prefer in that the diamonds are crazy sparkly and the best cut that you can get IMO. Hopefully you'll hear from some other people in regard to this but H&A is the way to go for me. I think that in that size clarity is a factor and I would really look for inclusions that are not on the table and I (personally) would get a VS2 in that size. That said, my first diamond was an SI1 that was eyeclean by WF standards. When you look on the website you will see an icon on the diamond's detail page that will let you know if it is eyeclean from 12". I got really lucky in that my diamond was an SI with only a few feathers on the very edge that could be covered by prongs. So it eyeclean as well as being "mind clean" for me. On the color issue, some people just love white, white diamonds and that is determined by culture and just preference. I actually was surprised by the color of I and J diamonds when I began to see them in person at WF. I guess that I always believed the hype about D-G diamonds but my eye actually likes I-J diamonds and so does my wallet :naughty:

By the way, I have also heard great things about GOG and have really come to appreciate their august vintage rounds. Do you know if your fiancee is more into the vintage cuts or into modern cuts. For vintage cuts GOG is the way to go (IMO) but modern cuts for me the best would be WF or BGD. Again, this is because I value the superior cuts and symmetry. My husband also prefers them because he does not have to "dig" as much with these vendors to get a good diamond and the service from WF and BGD has been excellent.

I'd say that G-H and sometimes I color and VS2-SI1 clarity is a sweet spot for a LOT of people! Some insist on higher and some lower, but that is what I consider a great value range for most people. If you want to maximize size, I'd probably focus on H VS2-SI1.

As far as cut goes, hearts and arrows is top of the line, but there is nothing whatsoever wrong with stones that are ideal cut (AGS Ideal cut or GIA XXX that falls into ideal cut specs).

Fluorescence can have a positive effect on diamonds that have a little tint to them. It also has the advantage of lowering the price a bit on stones of maybe H and up. So I would consider that a neutral factor and focus on finding the right diamond. I would focus on vendors who provide magnified photos of the stones and light performance information such as ASET and/or idealscope images. I have bought from Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash and they carry in-house H&A and ideal cut stones. Are you ready to buy yet or are you just in the research phase?

This one's really pretty and it's a VS2 with the H&A that you mentioned. It's in your budget for 8751 with the pricescope discount and it is bigger sizewise at 1.226. Have you started going over ASET and IS yet? If not, I can just post the pic of the diamond for you and the hearts and arrows.

wow thank you all with more info LOL

@money it will be solitaire on plat. when if she decide to go for another style we could do that right? i really love this one http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...n-solitaire-engagement-ring-by-vatche-272.htm but its really up to her.

@Bailey what is an vintage and modern cut?

@seeker2006 i think more in the research phase, i guess if i find the right one ill hop on it. its just the other day i went to my local dealers and just felt pressure. so then i started to look at blue nile. and then i ended up here

@msop04 appreciate it *thumbs up*

Here is an example of the vintage cuts. It's not a true vintage cut in that it is a well cut "version" of a vintage cut. They are absolutely beautiful and I think that GOG makes the best of both worlds because a well cut vintage is hard to find. Hopefully you'll hear more from the pros that love the vintage cuts. Here is a beautiful August Vintage Round from GOG:

I is safer if you can afford it. But there's nothing wrong with J. But there will a bit more tint.

I wouldn't get a J unless you know she won't mind some yellow tint from the sides in many lighting situations (not all, probably not most, but many).

Hi inneedofhelp

Here's a terrific diamond from Blue Nile:

http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-diamond-ring?first_step=diamond&forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP&track=NavEngStartWithDia#diamonds_forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP|builder=BYOR|pid=LD03674159

It has excellent stats, it has lovely optical symmetry, and BN's Signature line is guaranteed to be eye clean, which means you can make the very most of your SI clarity grading. It's also 1.23ct and the difference between this size and a one ct stone will definitely be visible. This stone is also not cut extra deep, so it's making the most of its carat weight, visually. It's an H color, which is as low as I, personally, would go, just because I'm not a fan of tint from any angle. The wire price is just under $9200, so it's well inside your budget. It also comes with a 30 day return period, so you can live with it for a little while before you have to decide whether you want to keep it or not.

Just my suggestion to get the most from your budget. This stone would be clean, white and sparkly, and of a nice size.
