I''m SO excited to share with my PS friends that I finally have a date with the US Consulate for my immigration appointment - January 21!!! It''s been such a long time coming!

My parents originally filed for me in the 90''s, I believe, and then I got too old and aged out so they had to refile for me in 2000. 8 loooong years later, right after FI proposed, coincidentally, I received a letter indicating that my case was finally up for review. I cannot tell you how relieved I was!

FI and I have been dating, long-distance - Vancouver, BC to Seattle - for 14 years now! While we''ve both had things to accomplish where we live, it has long since been time that we actually get to start living our lives in the same country, same city etc. I''m hoping that with this interview I will finally get my visa and be able to live and work in the US and start my new life down there well in advance of our Sept 6/09 wedding date. Additionally, after 10 years of working with the same employer, I was just laid off in September 08 and am just chomping at the bit to be authorized to work in the US and seek suitable employment. It has been entirely frustrating not being able to!!

I just had my grueling almost entire day long medical last week where I was poked, prodded and x-rayed and thankfully everything was good there and now I''m just very nervous about this interview. As far as I understand it, it is primarily a formality, however, I have no idea what types of questions they will be asking etc. I have nothing to hide but, just by the nature of it and how important a positive outcome is to all of us, I guess, I''m nervous!

Also - any ideas on how long it takes to get your passport back?? I''ve heard 24 - 48 hours!
I have to fly from the West Coast, Vancouver to the East Coast - Montreal for this interview so I will be stopping by in New York after the interview ... I just want to make sure that I leave enough time in Montreal before proceeding to NY b/c I will need my passport in order to do so.

If any of you have any advice or have experienced this yourself, I would be happy to hear about your experiences. OR if you just want to send some PS dust my way ... I would be thrilled - Thank you!

Thanks for reading and sharing in my excitement ... I cannot believe that after waiting for sooo long that we are sooo close now! Yay!

Wishful - Thank you so much. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It feels as though it has been forever! I appreciate the dust ... I've never asked for dust before so I'm hoping that it works like gangbusters!

It's so great to be able to share my excitement with you guys. It's not something I talk about that much with people around me .... It's sort of like a weird superstition thing ... I don't want to talk about it in case it doesn't happen or something like that. It just feels good to share it with people who might be excited for me as well and might be able to send some positive vibes my way ... Thank you!

Coats - Thank you, kindly! I appreciate your excitement and the loads of immigration dust. Do you think that you might feel like dancing? A little dancing could only help circulate the dust and make sure that I'm full covered in it, right? I love your little dancing emoties!

Thanks Miss Skip! LOADS?! That's fantastic ... How could everything not turn out okay with all this super potent PS dust??!! Please keep me in your thoughts on January 21 as I will be sitting in front of an Immigration Officer trying not to pee my pants.

Snlee - Thank you very much!! Accepting the tons of dust that you are sending ... Very much appreciated. I'm a ball of anxiety yet ... I'm filled with excitement too! Not a good combo for those around me!

Linda - Thank you, Linda! I'm so glad that you just know. I'm going to put some faith in your confidence and hopefully that will help get me through. I hope that this excitement is the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. I have that feeling of so close yet so far away since time seems to have stalled between now and then! I so appreciate your dust ...!!!!!

Me three :D this is super exciting and at what an exciting time

Spark that is so exciting! Congrats!

As for the passport, I don''t know if the process is different in your case, but when you apply for a US passport in general it takes a few weeks (at least) to arrive. So you might want to call wherever you are going for your interview (the Consulate I assume?) and ask them directly to make sure it''s an instant thing for you.

Yes, so be sure to check on that.

And I''m holding good thoughts for you!!

Sending tons of dust your way!! DH and I have been through and are kind of still navigating the immigration process, so I know exactly what you are going through. I am sure everything will go well so don''t worry. I know....easy to say right?

As far as your passport, you should be able to pick it up within that 24-48 hour time after the interview. All they have to do is emboss the visa into your passport, it doesn''t take weeks for that process to happen. DH was approved on a Tuesday and was able to pick up his passport from the consulate on Thursday. Good luck!!!

Just FYI, I don''t think Sparkalicious is seeking US Citizenship at this point (I may be wrong) so she won''t be getting a US Passport issued. Instead, she is getting an immigrant visa, which is then placed in her current passport, so that is why the turn-around time is shorter.

When my husband had to get his passport at the Canadian consulate in Boston I believe it was a 2 day process. I think if a consulate arranges your passport it''s pretty darned quick. Good luck with your interview!

Ahhh that makes sense. That hopefully should be quick for her!

Yup! I think she''ll have no problem there. There is a lot of red tape in this process, but getting the passport back is the most efficient part of it, at least from what I have seen.

Ooh - tons of dust - how exciting

I have no advice but just wanted to send you lots of luck!!!

Congratulations!
I just finished the immigration process not too long ago, myself (though a different visa).

You should be able to get your visa within 2 days... Don''t forget to marry within 90 days of entry in the US, very important.

I am not sure if we are allowed to link to other forums, but there is this immigration forum that was a tremendous help for me. Here it is. You will be able to find people in the same boat as you and it will help you with the next part of the process, your AOS. :)

Mods: if what I am doing is not acceptable, please let me know.

By the way, if you visit New York with the K-1 visa in your passport. Do not activate it if you are planning on going back right away to Vancouver, BC! If you do, you won''t be able to leave the States without an advance parole document or the green card in hand. Be very adamant on that!

I''m always happy to give dust for immigration issues, as I am quite sympathetic to it!

Galateia on this forum is a canadian who went through it. I recommending visajourney.com to her and she found it helpful. I see another poster found it helpful as well. I have no experience with that forum, as I found a greencard lottery forum, but they all ask pretty much the same questions.

Good luck!!

Sending lots of dust your way, Sparks!!!!

Best of luck Spark!! Woohoo!

Yes, thankfully, the process is a little different in my scenario.

I''m applying for a Visa to live in the US. I have to submit my passport to the US Consulate when I go in for my interview on Jan 21 and it takes, I believe 24 - 48 hours to get it back hopefully with my brand spanking new shiny US visa in it ...but b/c I''m traveling to NYC on Jan 23, I wanted to ensure that that is sufficient time in which to get my passport back that I will need to travel.

I''m glad that I''m not waiting for a US passport. No accounting for how long that would take nowadays!!

Thanks for the great advice!!
