I''m SO excited to share with my PS friends that I finally have a date with the US Consulate for my immigration appointment - January 21!!! It''s been such a long time coming!
My parents originally filed for me in the 90''s, I believe, and then I got too old and aged out so they had to refile for me in 2000. 8 loooong years later, right after FI proposed, coincidentally, I received a letter indicating that my case was finally up for review. I cannot tell you how relieved I was!
FI and I have been dating, long-distance - Vancouver, BC to Seattle - for 14 years now! While we''ve both had things to accomplish where we live, it has long since been time that we actually get to start living our lives in the same country, same city etc. I''m hoping that with this interview I will finally get my visa and be able to live and work in the US and start my new life down there well in advance of our Sept 6/09 wedding date. Additionally, after 10 years of working with the same employer, I was just laid off in September 08 and am just chomping at the bit to be authorized to work in the US and seek suitable employment. It has been entirely frustrating not being able to!!
I just had my grueling almost entire day long medical last week where I was poked, prodded and x-rayed and thankfully everything was good there and now I''m just very nervous about this interview. As far as I understand it, it is primarily a formality, however, I have no idea what types of questions they will be asking etc. I have nothing to hide but, just by the nature of it and how important a positive outcome is to all of us, I guess, I''m nervous!
Also - any ideas on how long it takes to get your passport back?? I''ve heard 24 - 48 hours!
I have to fly from the West Coast, Vancouver to the East Coast - Montreal for this interview so I will be stopping by in New York after the interview ... I just want to make sure that I leave enough time in Montreal before proceeding to NY b/c I will need my passport in order to do so.
If any of you have any advice or have experienced this yourself, I would be happy to hear about your experiences. OR if you just want to send some PS dust my way ... I would be thrilled - Thank you!
Thanks for reading and sharing in my excitement ... I cannot believe that after waiting for sooo long that we are sooo close now! Yay!
