Imagination or Diamond Shrinkage!!

I had my diamond reset yesterday b/c they originally set it too high and with the wrong head.

I had them change the head and set it as low as possible, Well........I got my ring back and now it looks soooooooooooo small to me.

Am I imagining things or does setting the stone low make it look smaller?????

I originally had a 4 prong v-tip on my 2.37ct pear and changed it to a 6 prong v-tip stuller head.

I am having serious DSS!!!!!

I just need someone to let me know I am crazy or imagining the shrinkage!

Yup, but also with the added risk of it being knocked about more often too. A lower setting is safer but doesn''t emphasis the diamond as much.

A lower set stone will definately seem a bit smaller......My original 1.52ct princess cut ering was set high, and I ended up breaking the stone.......so I also agree that the higher setting is more risky! My new ering is a 1.59ct round set low and I've been struggling with getting used to how much smaller a low set stone feels..........but I think it's best to be safe this time around since I am a bull in a china cabinet to begin with!

no, you''re definitely not imagining it yma! as chrono mentioned, it''s a trade off....low and safe or high and perceptually a bit bigger. to each his own!

When I picked up the stone and it only had the 4 prongs I knew right away I would have it reset the back of the diamond was sooooooooo exposed.

After all the things I learned here I knew I wanted a safe, low, 6 prong v-tip head.

I feel o.k. with the new setting, I just thought my eyes were deceiving me

It is AMAZING how just a little height (or lack of) can change your diamonds appearance. My ering got too loose and I had it resized. I kept thinking, ooh, my diamond will look bigger once I get it back since I haven''t seen it in a bit. But, I got it back and, horror of horrors, it looked smaller.

I was like, what?? Then I figured out why, it was sitting lower because it was smaller/tighter. If it weren''t for the fact that my new wedding band (which I got just a few days later), totally made the stone POP, I would have been really upset. lol
