Hi all,

I'm just starting a search for an OMC (or maybe OEC or maybe even something else, but definitely with an 'old world' feel to it and ESPECIALLY something with a warmer feel (like maybe a J or a K in color)) to replace my current e-ring stone (which is a pink sapphire)...and I have a few questions.

First, where is/are the best place(s) to search for these? (Online? Or B&M? Or both? And which vendor(s)?) I'd prefer at least being able to view photos of different stones at least in the beginning phases of my search since I'm not even sure WHICH cut I'd prefer. Obviously then I'll have to see the stones in person, but this is just as a starting point.

And, any other tips, bits of advice, etc. you could offer me would be appreciated, as the last time I looked at stones, I was looking at sapphires only, and I have to admit to being a COMPLETE novice when it comes to diamonds (as well as re-setting stones).

Also, I came across this and just wondered if any experts could tell me what they think of it. Does it look legit? Does it look about right? (as far as the specs they're giving vs. what you see. And assuming the specs are accurate, does the price seem reasonable (as in, not "too good to be true" or "ridiculously over-priced") Or...?? And, I'm not going to buy this stone at all, but it'd be nice to start learning what things look good and what don't. Thanks!! Thanks so much!!

PS I don't know if you would need to know anything about what I'm looking for, but the current stone in my e-ring is a 6x6mm princess cut. I don't know how much variation you can have when re-setting, so maybe that's something else to consider, too?? I'm just very clueless about all this

Okay, and another question that I guess would be good to ask, is...would my current setting look good with an older cut in it, or no? Especially since it''s flanked by 2 ''modern'' cuts?

Thanks for putting up with my extreme newness! :)

This is kinda the best pic I have of it..that shows it all without being very blurry

I'd highly recommend Jewels by Erica Grace! They have awesome stones that I've personally seen in person.

Also, if they would have an inspection period.. to really see if you like the stone. Pictures online do not do justice to these antique beauties.

EGLUSA is really soft on color grading by GIA its probably an L or M and SI2 or I1.

If you want a precision cut "Old Mine Cut" with an antique feel (large culet, chunky facets, kozibe effect, L colour) but also precision cutting and great light performance you might consider this

or
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6210/

http://www.vimeo.com/6401615 (an example of what it looks like in a ring).

If you want a one of a kind antique that really does look old when they cut more for weight than light performance I''d suggest:

1) Adam at Oldworlddiamonds.com (a large selection of OMC and Antique Cushions)
or
2) Jewels by Erica Grace (she hand picks really nice antique stones).
or
3) Singlestone.com

For a discussion of old OMCs versus GOG OMCs see here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/old-mine-cut-advise-and-does-this-seem-like-a-fair-price.124623/

Good-luck,

Thank you so much everyone for your help! So, I''m guessing you do think a stone such as what I''m looking for would look good in my ring? I realize it''s not a halo like the Tiffany, but it does have those diamonds down the shank!? (I think what''s got me so hesitant is the princess cuts flanking the main stone. Just not sure what a vintage cut would look like next to a modern cut like that)

The modern princess cuts with the OMC could work but it might be a tad ''busy.'' It''s really personal preference ultimately!

Well I would definitely get a very square cushion(like the picture above) not a pillowy shaped one if you are going to replace it.

Hi - saw that you mentioned that you might be interested in an OEC. If you''re fond of GOG''s OMC''s, Jon''s working on producing OECs geared for light performance. I''m lurking around while waiting for them to come out :)

here''s a video of the more recent rocks:

sweet Lexie,
as for the setting and the diamond. Jmho - I think it would take away from your OEC or OMC whichever you choose, as it is a bit busy.

I agree you should go with GOG. The picture you posted looks a bit like a golf ball.
